I am not quite sure how it happened or when, but my incredible little baby eater went from eating everything, to now eating NOTHING. Of course she eats, but her taste buds have truly formed their own opinions.
When I started Bump Club and Beyond’s Baby Food Made Easy classes nearly a year and a half ago, my then 6-month old ate everything that crossed her plate. She was a pleasure to dine with and we could take her anywhere. And then, just like that, she flipped her switch. She started to turn her head, push the plate away, and my favorite—throw her food. My avocado, carrot, sweet potato loving baby now refuses vegetables. I feel like the only way I can get them into her mouth is via a Plum Organics pouch. While not totally bad—I really feel like I need help. (Will she go to college eating out of a pouch, no…but I would love for her to eat some fresh veggies!)
Besides the vegetable problem I am also in a terrible food rut. I ran into a mom I am friends with through Bump Club while eating lunch at Whole Foods today, she shared my sentiments. Our toddlers are eating the same five food groups: chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, sliced turkey and cheese, pasta and fruit. If I would let her, Toddler J would survive on her love affair with fruit alone. She never refuses blueberries, peaches, kiwi or melon—but honestly, is that really enough?
Today at lunch she tried, and liked I will add, TOFU from the salad bar at Whole Foods. I felt like we won a gold medal at the Olympics. I couldn’t stop high fiving her. I was so excited that MAYBE, just maybe, she has added something new to her mealtime rotation.
When I started Bump Club two years ago it was to meet other expectant moms. Now that I have a toddler, my needs (and of course many of yours) are changing. I know firsthand what I need to survive as a successful mom…and I love that I can meet my needs and yours by bringing you the best information and resources out there. I am THRILLED (and can’t wait) that we are offering not one, but two Baby (Toddler) Food Made Easy classes this month for moms with kids 1+, and in the toddler eating stages. Both our Cooking Class on Thursday night, and our Nutrition Seminar on Saturday will help to combat these food issues I am dealing with…and I hope yours too! See you in the Whole Foods Kitchen!
