Today we kicked off a new series, Diary of a Mom, that you will see regularly on our blog, on Facebook and on Instagram featuring the moms of Bump Club and Beyond from across the country and their stories of motherhood. Thank you to everyone who has contributed, we look forward to sharing your vision of motherhood with the world.
“It was almost exactly one year ago this month that I found out I was pregnant after nearly 3 years of treatment for infertility. I found out I was pregnant while I was in Georgia on a work trip. After trying for so long, I never expected to see those two lines, especially while I was out of town and testing in a hotel bathroom.
Since I wouldn’t be home for a few days, I went to get a blood test while I was still there; taking a cab to the nearest blood draw station in downtown Atlanta. The tech that took my blood resembled Michael Clarke Duncan… a gentle giant with such big fingers that he had to type extra slowly so he wouldn’t hit multiple keys on his tiny medical keyboard. For whatever reason, I felt compelled to share my story with him. In his sweet southern drawl, he asked me if it would be OK if he prayed over my blood vial. I’m not a religious person, but I told him I would appreciate any positive vibes that he was willing to put out into the Universe for me.
Rafael Mateo made his grand entrance into the world on September 26, 2016. As you can see from the photo, he’s a deep thinker since birth. This picture was taken by my talented friend (and former college roommate), Lindsay Cox. It’s a favorite because it highlights Rafi’s trademark furrowed brow.”
