Best Fourth of July Destinations

By Lauren Ikenn

Summer is finally in full swing and it’s almost time for everyone’s favorite patriotic holiday: Fourth of July. Celebrating this monumental holiday is the highlight of summer and while some families simply attend their local firework shows, a lot of families take advantage of the long weekend and go on family vacations. While everyone has specific destinations they dream of visiting, we rounded up eight of the best, kid-friendly Fourth of July destinations.

  1. New York City:

What could be better than spending Fourth of July in the Big Apple? New York City may be known for its hustle and bustle but it’s still a great place to visit with family. You can spend the long weekend walking around Central Park and taking your little ones to Coney Island. Oh, and watching Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks is a must!

  1. Washington D.C.:

It doesn’t get more patriotic than spending Fourth of July in the nation’s capital. Between visiting the numerous renowned sites and watching the National Mall Fireworks, you’re bound to have an incredible weekend with your loved ones.

  1. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:

While Philadelphia may not be known for its glitz and glam, one thing it is known for is its incredible Fourth of July celebration. Philadelphia is home to Wawa Welcome America, a six-day festival with over 50 free events including free museum days, free concerts and an incredible firework show.

  1. Nashville, Tennessee:

Nothing screams summer like spending a long weekend outdoors listening to live music. Nashville holds their daylong celebration at Riverfront Park and not only does it feature free concerts by country’s greatest but there’s also a free family fun zone and a firework show.

  1. Chicago, Illinois:

The Windy City does it big on the Fourth of July. Spend the weekend exploring Millennium Park, eating as much deep dish pizza as you can and watching the annual Fourth of July firework display at Navy Pier.

  1. Lake Tahoe, California:

While Los Angeles and San Francisco are usually the hot tourist spots in California, everyone from near and far heads down to Lake Tahoe for the Fourth of July. Families spend the long weekend on the lake before attending the annual Fourth of July parade and Lights on the Lake firework display.

  1. Bristol, Rhode Island:

Bristol may not be a typical tourist choice but when it comes to Fourth of July they know what they’re doing. Their Fourth of July celebration is the oldest continuous celebration of its kind and it has something for everyone. The extravagant celebration includes a pageant, a themed ball, a carnival, a concert series, a parade and of course, fireworks.

  1. Orlando, Florida:

Let’s be honest, you can never go wrong planning a family trip to Disney World. While you don’t need a holiday to hang out with Mickey Mouse, it’s an easy way to ensure your children smile ear to ear. Both Magic Kingdom and Epcot put on magical firework displays to celebrate the patriotic holiday, making Orlando the perfect place to go.
Wherever your family decides to go, keep one thing in mind: Fourth of July is meant to be celebrated with your loved ones. Sit back, relax and let the good times roll!
