Babymoon in Bermuda

By Lindsay Pinchuk

As silly as something like a “babymoon” sounds, I highly recommend one! My husband and I have always enjoyed traveling together and knowing this trip would likely be our last as just a family of two (three if you count our pup, Riggins!), it made it even more special.
Knowing that anywhere in the Caribbean was out of the question (thanks Zika!), we started brainstorming where to go and ultimately decided on Bermuda. We extensively researched where to stay, where to eat and what to do before booking the trip.We have always had really great experiences with all-inclusives in the Caribbean so we were a little disappointed that this wasn’t a big thing in Bermuda. On top of that, food and transportation in Bermuda is pretty expensive and not that great (the food that is). The gorgeous beaches, beautiful weather and friendly people made up for these negatives though.

Like I said there are only a couple all-inclusive options in Bermuda, the most popular one being Grotto Bay. We considered staying here, but to be honest we weren’t impressed with what we saw online so we ended up choosing the Hamilton Princess Bermuda, a Fairmont hotel. The hotel recently went under a massive renovation and you can tell! Every corner you turn there is amazing art and the rooms were really nice. We really loved the location of the Hamilton Princess. It’s the only hotel in downtown Hamilton and you can walk to all the restaurants and shops on Front Street.
We knew going into this trip that Bermuda isn’t exactly known for their food. It’s a lot of pub food, and we thought it was expensive for the quality and taste. The service also wasn’t great. Gratuity is automatically included at most restaurants, so servers aren’t going above and beyond. At one of of our favorite meals, at Swizzle Inn, we commented how great the service was and when we got the bill gratuity wasn’t included. Obviously we gave him a big tip! As I mentioned above, one of the things we loved about our hotel was that it was within walking distance to downtown and all the restaurants. We’d recommend Portofino for their pizzas and pastas, The Swizzle Inn for conch fritters and Rum Swizzles (if you aren’t expecting of course!) and Miles Market for snacks and sandwiches.
I’ll be honest we spend most of our time just lounging by the pool or at the beach. We wanted a relaxing vacation and that’s what we got! The highlights of the trip were the Hamilton Princess private beach club, walking along Front Street before dinner and hiking from Warwick Long Bay to Horseshoe Bay to see the pink sand beaches. The beaches here are the prettiest we’ve ever seen!

The babymoon couldn’t have come at a better time. Up until that point I hadn’t done much to prepare for baby. I came home feeling motivated to get our house and lives ready for baby G!
