Five Ways to Bond with Baby

By Lindsay Pinchuk

Pure Love Tips from WaterWipes

You had a baby – congratulations! Now what? You may feel like a stranger just came into your life (News flash: it did!) and it can be super overwhelming! You may not feel love at first sight, but there are so many easy ways to bond with your baby that you’ll be exuding pure love in no time. To help you get started, WaterWipes, the World’s Purest Baby Wipes, has a few tips for new moms. Whatever route you go, remember to trust your instincts – you are all your baby needs.

  1. Bath time

Once you get past figuring out how to wash a squirmy, wet baby, bath time can be a wonderful way to bond with your little one. Washing them can be a great time to use baby massage techniques to help them stay calm. Water can be very soothing and relaxing to baby, and it’s something you can foster with the bath time routine. Make sure you aren’t rushed and that distractions are at a minimum. If your baby is cold, putting a warm washcloth on his/her belly can help ease some of the fussing. After the bath, continue the bonding while gently drying baby off and applying lotion with more infant massage.

  1. Diaper changing

Sometimes diaper changing can be, well, messy. But it can also be a really important way to bond with your baby! Since baby is facing you, it’s easy to make direct eye contact and encourage coos and giggles. Use a wipe that is as pure as the love between you and your baby. WaterWipes are the World’s Purest Baby Wipes with 99.9% water and just a drop of fruit extract — and will leave your baby’s skin clean and fresh. WaterWipes are specifically designed to be gentle on a baby’s skin and are awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

  1. Bed time

Once your baby is old enough to get on a schedule, start to figure out a bedtime routine that works for you. Singing sweet lullabies, rubbing their back, and story time are all great ways to interact with your baby. Talk to them in a calm voice and even if they can’t respond, start asking them questions about their day. Bed time usually comes with the best snuggles as well and there is no harm in soaking up every minute!

  1. Skin-to-skin contact

WaterWipes knows the importance of purity for the ones who matter most – and there is nothing purer than the love between parent and child. Bonding with your baby during skin-to-skin contact is unlike anything else and is not only important for baby, but for you as well. Skin-to-skin may have positive effects such as regulating your baby’s breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels and temperatures. The sheer biology of skin-to-skin and the natural power that a mother has to soothe baby in the first few weeks of life is an important and special way to bond.

  1. Eating/feeding

Whether it be breast, bottle or the transition to food, eating can be an incredible way to bond with baby. Yes – expect a mess, but it’s a good time to teach baby about cues for eating. When you see signs of hunger like rooting, tell baby that you know he/she is hungry and that it’s time to eat. If they are bottle fed, you can make eye contact and talk while they are feeding. As they get older, you can introduce different colors and tastes as you feed them their first bites of real food.
