Brady Rymer knows just a bit about music. After starting his career in a jam band and touring with the likes of Dave Matthews Band and Bob Dylan, he started to create family music once he had a family of his own. This three time Grammy nominated artist and the Little Band that Could, just came out with a fun holiday album, Revvin’ Up The Reindeer, the perfect tunes to get you in the holiday spirit. So who better to create a playlist for us then Rymer himself! Check out a bit about his holiday traditions and jam out to his holiday playlist on Spotify below. Take it away Brady…

One of our sweetest family traditions is choosin’ our tree together. We bundle up and visit our local Christmas tree farm – get a hot chocolate and start walking through the fields, scopin’ out the prospects.   My wife Bridget, the kids and I debate, sometimes passionately, the pros and cons of each evergreen candidate …  the shape, height, smell, color are all considered. Depending on how cold it is, there are different degrees of debate & compromise… finally, we agree on one we all love.

This started way back on the eve of my son Gus’ birth. He’s our first. It was mid-December, Bridget and I were living in NYC, impatiently waiting his arrival. Restless, we decided to go down to the corner vendor and get our Christmas tree. Lo and behold, after Bridget and I lugged it upstairs and into the apartment, her water broke – and off we sped to the hospital instead of decorating our tree. Each year around his birthday, we replicate this tradition, minus the water breaking…

While at the tree farm the kids pick out one ornament each year. It’s a tradition I really love; looking back, their choices reflect their interests & passions through the years. There’s the sparkly tutu, suitcases labeled with European destinations, a car with a tree on top, even a cool cat riding a scooter…

The other big tradition is cooking and eating, which we love! There’s always fun stuff happening in the kitchen. For a while, Bridget was making toffee to give to teachers, friends and family – she was like the Christmas Star – on top of everyone’s list. As the kids get older we’ve been having fun exploring recipes together– finding new, interesting things to cook up that we’ve never tried before.

And of course, we’ll have a running stream of music going during our tree trimming & cooking sessions. Our daughter Daisy loves to make holiday playlists, so we usually turn the DJ duties over to her. Here are a few holiday classics, with a few new discoveries thrown in, that we love hearing around this time of year. I added a few of my new holiday tunes as well – hope you enjoy & happy holidays to all!
