We want you to meet…

Lara Field, FEED Nutrition Counseling

Tell us a little bit about your relationship with BCB…

I am honored that I have been involved with BCB since Lindsey started in 2010. It is always exciting to attend BCB events because the community is eager for information, which makes it super fun for the presenter! Starting solids has been a topic that we have presented year after year, mostly because it is one of the most confusing topics for parents. Being a mom, as well as a dietitian, I can relate to this confusing time and am eager to share my clinical expertise and first hand knowledge.

What’s the #1 thing you want attendees to take away from your events?

Starting solid foods should be FUN! This is one of the most exciting times with your baby, and you can set the stage for future eating habits right from the start. Learning easy steps to prevent solid food mishaps is key, and attendees will walk away learning these key points.
Why do you enjoy partnering and aligning with BCB?
BCB is a great community of parents, and also colleagues. I have met many professionals that I consider friends through BCB, and I am honored to be a part of this growing community.
Do you have kid(s) and if so, what are their ages?
Yes! Two boys, ages 11 and 8 years old.
How do you juggle work life with family life? What are your top “pro” tips?
Raising kids is a daily struggle, yet also one of the most satisfying jobs I have ever had. To make it work, I think it is most important to dedicate time for both work and family life and stick to a schedule. Due to the nature of my work, I see clients after school and in the evenings. However, I dedicate two evenings a week for this, and make sure to keep the other weeknights for my kids. Though it would be easy to carpool or have a sitter or family member take my kids to their sports practices after school, I cherish this time with them as well. I also think it is important to make time for ourselves. I enjoy working out and running, but I also want to walk my kids to school everyday. Thus, being an early riser is crucial – I wake up at 530-545 every morning. Though it is BRUTAL at times, I can get my “me time” and still get them started for the day.
What’s your best professional or personal “parent-hack” you think others could benefit from?
Instacart! Feeding my family is important, obviously, and one of my favorite pastimes is pursuing the grocery store aisles, however my busy work schedule prevents that at times. Thus, I find Instacart or other grocery delivery services, one of the best ways to get the food I need in my house, without leaving my bedroom!
Favorite part about living in the Chicagoland area? Any secret gems to share?
Running path on the lake. On the coldest winter days or the hottest summer nights, I love running or biking on the lake and enjoying Chicago’s beauty
What are 5 things that you could not parent without?
-Pellegrino sparkling water – makes hydrating so much better!
-Starbucks Green Tea (unsweetened, light ice, no water) – caffeine keeps me going during the day
-Running shoes – nothing like zoning out on a long run to get ready for the day
-Chanel Mascara – makes me feel pretty if I don’t have time to do anything else
-My husband – he is my partner in crime, my rock, and my best friend. I couldn’t raise our boys without him!
What is one piece of advice for new parents that you would like to share?
Don’t sweat the small stuff, and think twice about too many things. Just GO! Though having a new baby sure is a life changing experience, it is important to roll with the punches, and not dwell on failures. We all hit roadblocks (in our health, job success, family dynamics) but if we face them head on, and know “this too shall pass” we will make it. I think this is an important lesson we try to teach our kids as well, with hopes they grow to become their own confident, kind, and strong men in the future.
