We Want You To Meet…

Name: Farrah Davidson

Age: 33

Kids & Ages: London-4, Leonardo-2, Gisele-2, Poppy- 5 months

Where do you live? Rochester Hills, MI

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: My husband and I are both dentists and just started our own practice, The Smile Studio. We built it from scratch so I had a blast designing everything— it was like another house! We even built a room in the back for Poppy since she comes to work with us. We do all procedures including braces, Invisalign and dental implants so it is a nice mix with being an influencer and mama to my little lambs.

What’s the biggest reward of motherhood? The biggest reward is definitely having four little best friends. My life is centered around loving my babies and giving them experiences to enjoy and remember.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Mom-hack: Driving the lambs around when it’s close to nap time so they all fall asleep and I get to enjoy a quiet meal from the drive-thru!  😛

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown: Enjoy our playset in the backyard, go to Peppa Pig World, the play area and Legoland at Great Lakes crossing.

Favorite date night in your hometown. Ocean Prime in Troy

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without? Could not mom without: blankets, snacks, the TVs in our Escalade, and Amazon prime  to buy goodies on the fly when there’s no way we’re leaving the house.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do?  Time to yourself? What’s that? I feel like I haven’t had alone time in 4 years! I definitely had more free time before kids but this is way more fun!  💖

Who are your Mom idols: Too many to name! My girlfriends, my mom, myself in 20 years— I’m nowhere near where I’d like to be but I’m looking to be someone my little lambs will look up to and aspire to be like.

Who’s in your Mom tribe: My best girlfriends. The top one is Crystal- she’s soooo effortlessly chic and we met in line getting our daughters’ ears pierced when London was only 4 months old, and Amelia was 5 months old. Fast forward 4 years and she will be Poppy’s godmother next month!

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Filter out the unsolicited advice. Motherhood is so different for everyone and you will find what works best for you along the way!

How do you balance it all: I couldn’t do it without my hubby! We have built the most solid foundation for our home centered around God and with Him, nothing seems impossible or far from reach.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?: Britney Spears’ Circus- a little bit of luxury, a lot of fun and craziness and a good beat!

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I am the founder of London Had a Little Lamb, a site of inspiration for fashion, art and design lovers through the eyes of my little lambs and I. I am a fashion and lifestyle blogger that loves to share our favorite things and celebrate all of life’s little pleasures. What began as a creative outlet has since become a site of inspiration and empowerment for readers and followers all over the world. IG: @londonhadalittlelamb, FB: @londonhadalittlelamb1

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Lindsay Schey

Age: 32

Kid(s) and Ages: Miles, 2 and a baby girl one the way due Oct 3

Where do you live? Birmingham, Michigan

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I am the founder and gift expert of TheGiftInsider.com, a gifting resource that helps users find hand-selected and creative gift ideas. I scour the web, boutiques and magazines to discover the most unique and creative gift finds along with thoughtful ways to give them. In addition to curating the site, I am regularly interviewed about my favorite gift picks on morning news shows across the country, am a gift trend contributor for various publications and have been mentioned on prominent outlets including E!News.com, Forbes.com and New York Magazine.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? I love seeing the world threw my son’s eyes, it puts such a unique and different perspective on the world. Whether it’s traveling to the ocean for the first time or just seeing an airplane fly above our backyard – it’s such a fresh and exciting way to look at the world. I can’t wait to witness him meeting his baby sister any day now.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!)  Get a phone strap! Right after my son was born, I got one of the Bandolier credit card holder/iPhone cases with a strap and it was a game changer.  It holds your credit cards and ID, you can clip your keys right on and it pretty much has made it so I don’t need to carry a purse anytime I’m running out of the house, going for a walk or heading to a music class. I even wear it around the house so I can have my hands free even if I’m not wearing pockets — because let’s get real, I’ve pretty much been living in leggings for the past two years.

What is the best part about where you live? We’re in Birmingham, Michigan, about a 15 minute walk to town and we absolutely love it. We are surrounded by parks and we take Miles to one almost once a day. Our neighborhood is mainly all young families and since it’s close to town, it has more of a city feel with the houses all close together so it makes it fun and easy to meet and see your neighbors all the time.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We love summertime in Michigan and taking advantage of the lakes in the area. And again, the parks right by us are the best.

Favorite date night in your hometown. We love heading to downtown Detroit for a fun night out. They are constantly opening new restaurants, so we always try to check out somewhere new. We’ve also been trying to do a fun stay-cation downtown a couple times a year, they are opening new hotels constantly as well. Next on our list is to try out the Shinola hotel.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

  • Instacart
  • Amazon Prime
  • Alexa’s in every room of my house
  • My family close by
  • Apple Watch

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

  • Obsessed with my Oliver Thomas backpack/diaper bag, switching to a backpack really made life easier
  • Babyganics products all the way (wipes, sanitzer, etc)
  • Bag full of snacks at all times (and suckers)
  • Aquaphor (cures all!)
  • Clear travel bags so I can keep it all organized

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Workout, date nights with my hubby and I love to travel as much as I can.

Who are your “mom idols”? I love moms who keep it real, Blake Lively, Chrissy Teigan, etc.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? I connected with a lot of amazing women from our area who have kids the same age as my son at a baby class and it made it all so much more fun and easier. Some I knew before, some were acquaintances from growing up in the area. It’s wonderful to talk to people who just get it and are going through the exact same thing at the exact same time as you.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? I had a really tough labor and physical recovery after childbirth, and I wished people talked about that more. I read all the books and was prepared for so much, but how difficult it would be for me physically after my son was born I was completely unprepared for. Once I started being open and talking to friends about my experience, I realized how common it was.

How do you balance it all?  When my son was born, my priorities really shifted and I decided to only work part-time. I go to my office 2-3 days a week depending on the time of year. To be able to do this, I’ve really gotten better about saying no to things that I don’t feel are worth my time and only take on projects and partnerships that I think can really advance my business. I travel less and I’ve also changed my business model around a bit so it can work with a part-time schedule. I love that I can be home with son some days and do drop-offs or play dates and the others days I can get dressed, interact with grown ups and work on my business. But it’s a constant struggle, I think it’s near impossible to balance it all, I just try to do the best I can.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? Such a tough one, I gotta think on that.

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Carrie Budzinski

Age: 31

Kid(s) and Ages: Lucas (3) + Sam (4 months)

Where do you live? Livonia

Tell us about yourself…

Work life: I work at After 5 Detroit and manage the day to day operations of our websites After 5 Detroit and LittleGuide Detroit, in addition to client management and all the other things that come up during the day. My oldest son is in daycare 3 days a week, babysits Grandpa once a week and at home on Fridays. I’m a WAHM with my youngest everyday and it’s a fun challenge but I’m grateful to have the option to work and be with my baby. I’m also grateful that I can take him to meetings when I need to but have a great support system I can tap when I need to use it too.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? The love is unreal, my heart is full at all times and I love the cuddles.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? I always put my baby in a size up diaper to avoid leaks or blow-outs. This was also really helpful with newborn boys who are circumcized because the vaseline you need to use makes the diaper teflon.

What is the best part about where you live? Detroit is a big little town and I love it. The people are friendly and you always run into someone you know. It’s growing and changing and it’s fun to experience first-hand. I live in Livonia and I love it because we have two Targets, lots of public parks (including a historic village) and quick freeway access to get to a lot of fun things.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. The Detroit Institute of Arts is our favorite place to visit as a family and it’s FREE for tri-county residents. I love going to Greenmead in Livonia (and I’m on the park’s Commission).

Favorite date night in your hometown. My favorite date night is listening to a show at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and having dinner. We don’t do it often but it’s definitely our go-to date.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

  • I have a Moby baby wrap and I use it every day.
  • Since I’m a WAHM I nurse on demand and the HaaKaa Breast Pump is my best friend because I don’t waste milk and have a supply for when I need it without having to use the big pump (which I loathe using
  • Nursing clothes from HM. Their clothes are practical, comfortble and stylish.
  • Hungry Harvest delivers a box of fruit and vegetables to my door for $15 and I love it! It assures our family eats well and gets my 3 year old excited because he loves to see what’s in the box.
  • Can I say LittleGuide Detroit? I love being able to have a quick reference for what to do with the boys on our weekends or even during the week when I have free time/motivation to get out the house.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? I don’t have a diaper bag! I’m better at having things on me the second time around but as a first-time mom I never planned to be away from home long enough to need anything (it’s a big reason I nurse for a year – I’d never remember bottles!). I throw wipes, diapers, an extra outfit in my purse and a snack bar/pouch for my toddler when I remember.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Clean my house! I love being out in my garden but it’s not the season of life for that. I try to make time for reading and my personal blog.

Who are your “mom idols”? I love Anna Liesemeyer from In Honor Of Design. I followed her blog for years and this year got to know her directly and she’s charming and graceful. Her family is beautiful and I don’t know how she does it all.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My mom tribe are the girl friends I’ve had for years and we’re becoming moms together which is really fun. We already arranged our toddlers marriage with our college friends (everyone is happy with this plan right now!)

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? You can’t be ready for it. It’s not anything you can imagine. The love you feel is consuming, the work is also draining. Remember it’s a marathon and not a sprint. If you have a bad day that’s okay there will be more good days. If your kid is having a bad week, it’ll pass and you’ll miss the phase when it’s all over. You only remember the good stuff so don’t let the bad stuff get you down.

How do you balance it all? I don’t. It’s a struggle every day. I simply remind myself that tomorrow’s a new day to adjust and try to figure it out. I constantly remind myself to enjoy the moment because this is exactly what I dreamt about my whole life and it’s perfect (chaos but perfect).

If you had a theme song, what would it be? I Want Crazy – Hunter Hayes

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: Little Guide Detroit was the brain child of Kerry Doman. We’d been friends for a couple years and would get together a couple times a year for lunch. In 2017 she brought up this idea to me and asked if I wanted to join her in the endeavor. I was super excited to start a platform for families looking for events and activities in metro Detroit. My mom always took me and my sister to great events as kids and it’s something I always looked forward to doing with my boys. I’m a big Detroit booster (it’s why I originally started my personal blog) and think we can rival ATL and even Chicago one day so I love being able to showcase the city as a great place for families whether you want to live here, bring business here or just visit.  You can find Little Guide Detroit on Facebook, Instagram and Carrie on her blog and Instagram!

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Kerry Doman

Age: 37

Kid(s) and Ages: Saverio (2) and Leo (8 Months)

Where do you live? Detroit, Michigan

Tell us a little about yourself…

Work life: I am the founder and CEO of LittleGuide Detroit. LittleGuide Detroit is the top resource for events, classes and activities for kids throughout Metro Detroit.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Raising good, kind, happy and healthy boys. They have made me a better person, a more kind, patient, and loving version of myself.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Be kind to yourself. We hear it all of the time, we read it all of the time, but we don’t practice it all of the time. We honestly can’t do everything. We can’t be everything for everyone. Do the best you can. Love your kids the best you can. And give yourself permission to just be OK some days. You may not win the race, but you survived the day and that’s worth celebrating!

What is the best part about where you live? Our community is truly the most special place for kids to grow up. The community playground is right outside our front door (which is a blessing and sometimes a curse…mostly when we need to drag him in for dinner), and all of the neighborhood kids gather there every day and night to play together. No matter the differences in ages, they all play together. We will stay in our house for the community alone!

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We live downtown Detroit, so we love exploring the city with our boys. We walk or bike everywhere from Eastern Market and the Detroit Riverfront, to Campus Martius and Outdoor Adventure Center.

Favorite date night in your hometown. My husband and I try hard to get to all of the new restaurants in the city of Detroit, but lately, the new hotspots are popping up faster than we can book a babysitter!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without? It really comes down to one: AMAZON! I have incredible respect for all moms that did it before Amazon Prime!

The second would be LittleGuide Detroit. Honestly, I started it because I didn’t know what to do with my active little guy and now each weekend morning, I go on the event calendar, look at what’s going on and pick an outing for us to go to together. As a full time working mom, I try to make the weekends as special as possible, so I love finding fun and unique experiences that we can all do together as a family!

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Snacks, snacks, diapers, wipes and snacks! 🙂

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I enjoy yoga, getting together with friends, dining out, art, and organizing.

Who are your “mom idols”? All moms are my idols. Momming is hard work and it doesn’t matter if you stay at home or work full time, if you have 1 kid or 5 kids, it’s hard, it’s challenging. So to all of the moms out there, you’re doing an amazing job!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My mom tribe consists of some of my closest friends from my single days, so the bonds run deep. There’s nothing like having a few drinks and being able to talk about all of the hard, amazing, gross and challenging things that only moms can understand!

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Don’t try to be perfect – there’s no such thing! I’m a perfectionist. I’m Type A…and beyond. But at the end of the day, you only have so much capacity and you and your kids and your partner are the most important things. Everything else can wait or come second

How do you balance it all? I don’t. If someone says they do, have them call me please. I just try to keep my priorities straight, which my kids are at the top of the list. If they need something, that comes first. Otherwise, I just work hard, fast and try to be as efficient as possible so that I can spend the most time with them, while enjoying being a full time working mom (because I love what I do and I love to work), a wife, our household’s cleaning lady and laundromat!

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: LittleGuide Detroit is the leading and fasting growing resource for events, classes and activities for kids in Metro Detroit.  You can find Little Guide Detroit on Facebook and Instagram!

How do you balance it all? I’m learning to say no. My first daughter is entering kindergarten and I know my second will be before I know it, so I’m trying to take time for the little things & cherish every moment.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I try to stay off social media when I’m with my family so I’m not on it much, but I do try to post on Facebook about my upcoming yoga classes…maybe this experience will get me also posting on Instagram

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I am a mamapreneur, transformational workshop leader, and speaker. I am the host of the Fearlessly You Podcast, creator of the Fearlessly You Experience and LIVE workshops, Co-owner of Detroit Mobile Bar and Metro-Detroit Real Estate Agent.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood?  I love that motherhood opens you up to a side of yourself you never knew existed. My girls have truly empowered me to think about how I spend my days and over the years I have shifted from doing the things I thought I had to do, to doing the things I truly want to do. We are busy bees over here, which means there’s no time to be wasted and more LIFE to be lived. They are my greatest reminders that we only have today.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!)  When potty training my kiddos (we’re on kiddo #2 this month!) I buy extra large puppy training pads and layer them in-between multiple layers of sheets. That way if we have an accident I can simply rip one layer off and we’re back to bed – no changing sheets in the dark.

What is the best part about where you live? Our elementary school is in walking distance. I love that because it offers that special time to connect each and every day.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We love to be in or around water! Whether that’s Lake St. Clair or a local splash pad, we spend our summers in water!

Favorite date night in your hometown. Honestly, we head to downtown Detroit nearly every chance we get. The atmosphere and food never disappoint! One of our favorite spots is San Morello at the Shinola Hotel. It’s A-MAZING.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

  1. Me time – To be the best mom I can be, I have to be the best Lauryn I can be. That always starts with a positive mindset. I need at least one hour in the morning by myself, so that I don’t automatically jump into mom-mode. The rest of the day is always so much smoother this way.
  2. Podcasts – I love to sneak in some inspiration or advice from fellow mommy podcasters when were driving to and from kid activities.
  3. Pinterest – I use it every single week to plan our meals. My oldest is a picky eater and my youngest will eat anything, so I look up dinner ideas for toddlers constantly.
  4. Kroger ClickList – I haven’t done a BIG grocery-shopping trip with the kids in-tow in over 2 years. Pick up and go! That’s how I like it.
  5. My support system – I am so grateful to have a community of amazing people around me every day. Between my husband, the grandparents, family, friends, neighbors, and multiple soul sisters who I can call on when I need help, I feel like I’m never doing it alone. That is HUGE. Even if you start with one go-to person, you must ask for help from others.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? With baby #3 on the way in a few short months, I am about to re-enter the diaper bag phase again, so I had to really think about this one! Besides the obvious essentials…

  1. Tommee Tippee rubber bibs – They are the best.
  2. Changing pad – It seems like we always need to change a diaper as soon as we get somewhere!?
  3. Toys – It’s nice to have that extra distraction on hand when necessary.
  4. Butt Paste – We loveee butt paste around here.
  5. Mommy needs! I always carry around an extra chapstick, hair tie, and water bottle for myself.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do?  Yoga, read, create… just appreciate pure silence. J

Who are your “mom idols”? All of the amazing mamas in my family who came before me: My mom, mother-in-law, grandmothers, great-grandmothers – truly every mom close to me. It’s amazing to think that we’re never in this thing alone and we have every example we need, right where we’re at.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My soul sisters at Detroit Moms Blog! Up until I became a part of this beautiful, encouraging community I didn’t have a lot of friends with kiddos. It’s been such a relief to surround myself with women who get it and all live in the Metro-Detroit area.  Detroit Moms Blog is an online collaborative blog written by and for local moms. You can find them at www.detroitmomsblog.com.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? That motherhood is imperfectly perfect. It’s beautiful and hard at the same time – and allowing your experience to be BOTH is OK.

Honestly, before I had kids I had this idea that motherhood was going to be easy and perfect. As if I would be Joanna Gaines on Fixer Upper – a big family, everyone is so well mannered, I’m still flawlessly running my own business, the list goes on. But you know somewhere in those outtakes Joanna also gets frustrated, raises her voice at her kiddos, loses it now and again – we simply don’t see that side of the story and I think that sets us up for unrealistic expectations. I pictured this ideal situation and when things didn’t look perfect, I wondered what I was doing wrong!? The truth is motherhood isn’t perfect, it’s not a show, and it does get messy… and that is OK, mama!

How do you balance it all?  I don’t. In fact, I’m not a fan of the word “balance” and I like to think of it more as a teeter-totter. Some days I’m the world’s best mom; other days I do my best. Some days I’m a rock star business owner; other days I question everything I’ve worked so hard to create. Some days I’m an awesome friend; other days I’m looking around, wondering where everybody went?  It’s one day to the next. I simply remind myself that I am doing my best and I give myself massive grace along the way.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?  Likely something by P!nk. I love how she’s so real and honest, and I like to think I can be a *bit* of a rebel at times.  😉

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it:  Honestly, I am a recovering Type A perfectionist over here and I like to use my online media channels to highlight that it’s OK to let all of that go and just be YOU.

My mission is to empower mamas who are in the “messy middle” to own their imperfect story and use it as fuel to create a life and business that is FEARLESSLY YOU.

We Want You To Meet…

Name:  Brittanie Chin-Merkerson

Age: 42

Kid(s) and Ages: Currently pregnant with my first little angel!

Where do you live Southfield, MI

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life I am co-owner of Shred415 in Troy, a new boutique fitness studio opening this fall.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? The biggest reward of being pregnant has been developing a one on one relationship with the little one growing inside of me.  Right now it’s just me and her.  There’s something really special about that.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? Having a good playlist handy has been a lifesaver for me.  When I’m feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, there’s nothing like hearing my favorite classic tunes to calm me down and reset my mojo.

What is the best part about where you live?  I love the central location of Southfield.  It’s so easy to get to some of the other areas of town that I love, like Birmingham, downtown, Royal Oak, and Ferndale.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown.  I have a 10-year-old stepdaughter and we love to make crafts for every occasion and no occasion at all.  People love the tiny gestures of kindness and love that come from a homemade present.

Favorite date night in your hometown.  A little carryout and a ton of laughs at home with the hubby 😊.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

  • My Meiz U-shaped pregnancy pillow from Amazon has been my best friend. I feel hugged every night, and quite frankly will likely hold onto it for those late nights with my little one.
  • My 30 oz Yeti insulated cup. Wow, staying hydrated during pregnancy can be tricky, but there’s nothing like sipping on an ice-cold beverage all day long in any weather.
  • My Lululemon align leggings and joggers; like a second skin. They are soooooo comfy AND something I’ll wear post partum.
  • Any and every scented candle I can get my hands on
  • The support of my man!

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do?  As tough as it can be sometimes, I’ve loved staying active.  Shred415 (opening this fall) was always a huge part of what kept me active while living in Chicago, and it taught me how to stay active outside the gym as well.  I also love to curl up with a really good book.

Who are your “mom idols”?

  • My mommy (yes, I still call her mommy at the age of 42)
  • My sister (she also happens to be in OBGYN and has been truly amazing during my pregnancy)
  • Bonnie Micheli and Tracy Roemer (founders of Shred415 and all-around phenomenal mothers and women)

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My tribe is small, but mighty! Two of my close friends from college, the University of Michigan (GO BLUE), Monique Burt-Williams, and Erin Harris, and my sister of course!

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood?  Be YOU, unapologetically, no guilt, strong and proud, YOU.

Name: Amy Hammer

Age: 40

Kid(s) and Ages: daughter, Annalaina, age 12 & son, Keegan, age 7

Where do you live? Lake Orion, MI

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: Sometimes I’m really in disbelief that I get to do the work I do. I co-own Metro Detroit Doula Services with my business partner, Andrea Stainbrook. Our agency brings comfort and confidence to families in the Metro Detroit area since 2015, offering birth doulas, overnight care, postpartum & infant care doulas for day too, also childbirth & newborn education classes, and more. We support families of all desires. It takes some juggling having a home office, but it’s truly been a dream and honor to serve them all.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? We’ve dealt with issues of infertility, so having two beautiful kids is reward enough, but also watching them grow into kind and loving humans. Also, hearing I love you & all.the.hugs.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) When you have to put eye-drops in your kids eyes (or anyone’s eye for that matter)… Have them lie down, and turn their head slightly away from you, next put as many drops as needed on the skin right between the nose and the corner of their eye, then while blinking have them slowly roll their head toward you so the drops run into the eye.

What is the best part about where you live? It’s 10 minutes from my husbands work & beach access!

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. Getting ice cream at Eva’s (on Lapeer) in the summer.

Favorite date night in your hometown. Doing anything fun outside we haven’t done before and a meal at Big Wave Sushi, Sagebrush, or somewhere downtown Lake Orion.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without? Single serve Keurig in our upstairs bathroom for quick morning coffee, to-do lists, my calendar to keep our schedules straight, Amazon music and prime – ‘nuff said, & Bee All Natural, Baby Diaper Rash Salve, backpack for family outings… that was more than 5!

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? They were… snacks & water, change of baby clothes/diapers, epipens (for daughter’s peanut allergy), cards/games for waiting at restaurants, hand sanitizer

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Zumba/dance classes or get a massage 🙂

Who are your “mom idols”?  My own mom!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? Most of them are from a previous online group called NAMI – which stands for Naturally Attached Michigan.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Everyone has opinions on child rearing, you will know what is BEST for your own family.

How do you balance it all? I don’t! lol Over the years of being a parent, I’ve learned to let things go, let go of perfection.

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Brooke Miller

Age: 39

Kid(s) and Ages: Gisele, 7 and Pearl, 4.5

Where do you live? Berkley, Michigan

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I am the CEO and Clinical Director at Honey Space for Moms in Ferndale, Michigan. I founded Honey because I was looking for the services we provide, and couldn’t find them. I’m a licensed psychotherapist, so Honey comes from a foundation of emotional health in parenthood. We provide mental health services including private and couples therapy and group support, co-working with onsite childcare as well as private office spaces for rent, enrichment classes including prenatal yoga, birth classes and parent education, and consulting for corporations and businesses who are working to develop or strengthen their family focused programming.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Seeing humans who I made and have raised the best way I’ve known (with all the mistakes on the daily) become such incredible little people with deep kindness, wisdom, intelligence and creativity. I’m very proud of the people my kids are and I’m deeply thankful I get to be their mama.

What is the best part about where you live? I love my friends, my Honey community, the ease of commuting and cost of living. It’s a simple place and when there is so much complexity in life, I love being somewhere so simple.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. As summer is coming to a close I’m already missing our pool days. We are a pool family for sure, we could all swim all day! Also frozen yogurt outside and playing ‘I spy’.

Favorite date night in your hometown. Anything with my hubby works for me—I just enjoy spending time together. Detroit has a ton of new restaurants popping up all the time and I’m down to try any and all of them!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?  (Products, apps, anything that helps you to be a better mom.)  I could not mom without

  • My husband. He is a fantastic partner and father.
  • My ‘bests’, which are my friends I basically talk with about everything all day long.
  • My Honey community. Honey is family.
  • My Emotional Intelligence. I think the challenge of motherhood would be on another level if I didn’t have the knowing of how to talk with my kids, communicate with them, ask them how they feel about things and problem solve together as a family. I’m acutely aware that motherhood is not something that you can or should do alone, and that knowing is truly priceless.
  • The Descendants Movies. All 3. We know every word. We know every move. The living room is our stage. And music in general. My husband is super into music and I’m a former dancer, so we always have music and movement happening in our house!

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

I always have:

– an extra pad of paper and crayons

-extra hair ties (I have little girls with long hair)

-layers- extra sweatshirts for both kids

– wipes. You never grow out of needing wipes

-tape measure. I’ve been in a stage of building out Honey so it landed in there and it’s the best toy for my kids when I need a few minutes to think or talk to someone. They love measuring and drawing!

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I head to a yoga class or do errands SLOWLY.

Who are your “mom idols”?  My friends who are in the thick of it with me. The moms at Honey who dive in and work through challenges out loud with such grace and vulnerability. They are the moms I look up to and with. They astound me.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My HoneyMama Hive. I met my closest friends through Honey. I opened soon after moving to Michigan so it was a pretty amazing transition into being surrounded by some of the most incredible friends I’ve ever known.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Avoid anyone who tells you it’s simple. Ignore anyone who tells you they don’t remember it being hard. Surround yourself with people who you feel safe being real with. Also, isolation is the secret ingredient to everything uncomfortable in motherhood- find a moms group. And intrusive thoughts happen to everyone, you’re not crazy. And, so many other things.

How do you balance it all? I don’t. I melt. And crack. And fall apart. And remedy. And yoga. And wine. And friends. And support. And breath. And try again. And thrive. And Rinse, repeat. Again and again.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? This is Me by Keala Settle from The Greatest Showman. I cry every time I hear it. There’s something about being unapologetically authentic that makes me feel all the things.

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: Currently I hide behind the Honey social media in all ways. @honeyformoms. I write a piece called #rawhoney – I used to write biweekly and now it’s about monthly, though I’ll be adding that back into the heavy rotation this fall! We are also starting a blog through www.honeyformoms.com which I’m super excited about, and will feature me and the whole team at Honey.  This purpose at Honey is to radically shift the paradigm of how moms treat themselves and one another, so everything you see on our social media comes from that place.

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Andrea Stainbrook

Age: 36

Kid(s) and Ages: Lydia, 9 & Estelle, 6

Where do you live? Rochester Hills, MI

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I am the co-owner of Metro Detroit Doula Services. Our goal is to provide comfort and help build confidence throughout pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. From teaching birth classes to overnight care after baby arrives we are here to help!

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Goodness, it may be learning how big my heart could swell. Watching my girls grow fills me with joy. Even the mundane days. Even the hard days. They teach me new things and expand my heart.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) I tend to be the one cooking most meals during the week so my hack is to have several fast meals that are go tos. So when grocery shopping I make sure I have those items needed for the quick meals. So on those days when you are like what is for dinner you can just pick one of those quick meals that you have at the ready!

What is the best part about where you live? We are lucky to have a neighborhood full of kids! We love that play time can be all the time. The sound of kids playing fills the evening air many of nights.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown.  We like to do a lot of things but one of our favorites in summer time is swimming. Whether in our community pool or at Thelma Spencer Park, a hidden little gem of a beach. In the fall…bring on the Cider Mill!

Favorite date night in your hometown. We love trying out new places to eat or visiting old favorites. We often head into downtown Detroit too!

What are the 5 things that you could not “mom” without? 5 things in no particular order: 1) Parenting books that remind me how to be a calm parent. I am not constantly reading them but I like refreshers from time to time. I am currently reading “Voice Lessons for Parents, “ by Wendy Mogel. 2) Coffee. 3) Time to myself. I try to carve out time to do things for me. Sometimes it is as simple as 10 minutes alone doing whatever I like. Often I make sure I get a run in. Its a healthy alone time where I get to listen to my podcasts. 4) Patience. The more of it I have the smoother the day. Some days I can’t find it though……. 5) Music! A good dance party or tunes to make cleaning up easier are the best. We have so many Spotify playlists.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? I have graduated from a diaper bag! But my purse carries all sorts of curious things. Things I try to have with me now for my older kiddos: 1) Band-aids. 2) Hair ties. Mainly for me 😉 3) Loose change. This comes in handy when you say yes to those quarter machines of trinkets. 4) Phone. For obvious reasons but also if an errand is long and you grant permission for a kid game on it. 5) Snacks. If I have a snack to offer my mom game is strong.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I like to watch TV. I love binge watching shows, stand-up specials, and comedies. I also enjoy reading. We got this great new hammock chair on the porch. It is perfect for curling up to a good read. And I usually make time for myself to run and sometimes yoga too.

Who are your “mom idols”?  Oh man so many. I’ll name a few. I’ll start with my mom! She is excellent at letting her kids be themselves. I never felt pressured to be something I wasn’t. She was/is good at letting me navigate my own path in life. Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard seem to have got it going on. I love the Armchair Expert podcast and often Dax shares tidbits about parenting and I usually dig it. “Beverly Goldberg” from the show, “Goldbergs.” I love how much she moms with no worry of how others think of her. I also want most of her sweaters. “Lorelei Gilmore” from Gilmore Girls. I love her fierce love and ability to always be relatable to her kiddo.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My inner circle are moms, dog moms, and friends from various stages of my life. They have my back and we can dish about our day without judgement. Some I met in a parenting group nearly a decade ago. My inner circle also includes a friend from highschool. Whether we live close or far they are always there to listen not only to me, but my children.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? You absolutely truly got this. NO ONE is a picture perfect parent every moment of every day. You know your baby best. 100%.

How do you balance it all? It is never a perfect balance but I strive for it! What seems to be working is setting boundaries and doing time blocks. So on the day to day I set hours dedicated for work (except for getting called to a birth 😉 ) and set time for uninterrupted family time. I also have a fantastic business partner, Amy Hammer, who between the two of us we help each other as well we are able to share the load so we can both have our boundaries. In regards to keeping my marriage a priority we set up date nights as regular as possible and make sure to have time to connect.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? It depends on the day and I don’t think I could choose just one. But I would love an 80s style movie montage with me mommin’ it with a catchy tune and I turn to the camera and smile. So I guess my theme song is cheesy and hilarious. Which maybe sums me up as a mother lol.

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Jenny Tosoian Rosenthal

Age: 37

Kid(s) and Ages: 3 boys- Drew (7), Bennett (5), Graham (turning 3 in September)

Where do you live?  Bloomfield Hills

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I am a speech-language pathologist, and started my own private practice called Birmingham Speech and Language. It is located at Long Lake and Woodward, in Bloomfield Hills. I see kids from toddler age to school age, with a range of speech and language needs. My website is www.bhamspeech.com, and I have a FB (Birmingham Speech and Language PLLC), and Instagram (@Bhamspeech).

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? I think I’m still in the thick of it when it comes to raising our 3 boys. Every day/hour is spent trying to shape them into good human beings (and breaking up wrestling matches!). With three rambunctious boys this is not always easy! I HOPE that the biggest reward will be to see them grow into kind, loving, respectful young men. I may need to wait for that, but when it happens I think it will be the biggest reward of motherhood- finally seeing all of the hard work pay off.

Right now I love that no matter what, they love me for who I am, and “need” me. My 2.5 year old screams out, “Mom, I NEED you”, at least 3 times a day. It is exhausting and comforting at the same time to know that my presence is needed, as their mom!

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? Sunday night I make sure to take time to set up for the week! I write in my planner (yes, I have an old school planner), I meal plan for the week, and I get the kids outfits put together, and set them in cubbies all ready to go. Monday comes with a lot of chaos, so those three things really help eliminate any major issues.

What is the best part about where you live? I love living in Bloomfield Village, because it is a great family neighborhood and gives a good sense of community. Downtown Birmingham is just a walk (or a short drive!) away, and provides us with amazing restaurants, stores, a farmers market, and fun events like concerts and movies in the park.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. My husband and I love to walk to the Farmer’s Market with the kids on Sundays in the summer. We always run into people we know which makes it fun for the kids too.

Favorite date night in your hometown. I love Tallulah in downtown Birmingham. It is such a cute wine bar, has a great outside patio, and the food is delicious. They also have live music on Thursday nights.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?  (Products, apps, anything that helps you to be a better mom.)

  • I would have to say my Instapot is my “go-to” when I need to make dinner, quickly!
  • Alexa is so useful because my kids take turns requesting songs and have dance parties in the kitchen while I get dinner ready. J
  • Light up alarm clock for kids tells them when they are “allowed” to get out of bed. This has helped somewhat (at least with my 7 year old) know when he can get up for the day. https://littlehippo.com/products/mella
  • A big timer- we a big timer that sits in our kitchen. It has a visual red indicator that gets smaller as the time goes down. I use it ALL the time- to tell them how many minutes until bed, or how many more minutes they have to play, etc. A teacher friend of mine recommended it, and I love it. https://www.timetimer.com/
  • I use essential oils a lot at home. I diffuse them around the house to help us calm down, to freshen up a space, etc.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Bandaids, snacks and water bottles, sticker/activity books, thieves antibacterial wipes, and a few cars/toys.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I always make time to schedule my workouts for the week. Aside from that, I LOVE quiet time in my house alone (which does not happen often), to clean and organize and make “to-do” lists (nerd alert).

Who are your “mom idols”? I honestly get inspired by watching normal moms in every day situations! Moms who are dealing with the day to day life with their kids- at the grocery store, in the gym, in town, etc. It helps me to feel more normal- like we are all in this together!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? I would say I have different mom tribes! Some are moms that I’ve known since childhood. We keep in touch over the phone and encourage each other through life’s moments. Other mom tribe friends are moms I met in the neighborhood since moving back to Michigan. Our kids go to school together and have been friends since they were born. We do workouts together, and always make play dates, and girls dinner/lunch a monthly priority.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Do not try to do it all. Enjoy the simple moments. Young kids do not appreciate the difference between a fun pizza play date with friends or doing something huge like Disneyworld (I have learned from experience, lol). Keep it easy on yourself.

How do you balance it all? I definitely have help! As a mom of three young kids and a traveling husband, I realized soon enough that I could not do it all. Having help with the kids allows me to stay sane, grow my private practice, and take the kids to and from their activites. I am definitely a mom who tries to do too much, and that admittedly kicks me in the butt a lot. I have learned that sometimes less is more, and I try to incorporate down time and nights at home into our schedule each week.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? Bob Marley “Three Little Birds” /Don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing is gonna be alright./

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I am SO excited to launch my blog/website this fall- Birmingham Bloomfield Hills moms- a site for local moms in the area! Find me on Instagram @BirminghamBloomfieldHillsmoms and Facebook too. The website www.Birminghambloomfieldhillsmoms.com will be launching this fall! It will be a go to site for moms, and will include a calendar of weekly events, a meet a mom segment, and will have a curated list of resources in the area, such as doctors, dentists, help for new moms, kid friendly restaurants, etc. It is a good way for moms in our community to unite and experience motherhood together! It is also great for new moms who just have moved to the area. The Local Mom’s Network has nearly 100 sites in suburbs (outside of great cities!) in the US. Now Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills will have one as well. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when we launch!

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life:  I’m a work from home mom. I run our YouTube Family Vlog Channel where we share our day to day life as a family as well showcase what it’s can to raise a child with Down Syndrome. Also as a sleep consultant and the owner of Sweet Baby Bliss, I help mom get their babies to sleep with ease independently so they can reclaim their life and sanity back.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Watching my child grow and discover new things everyday is pure bliss. To see his thoughts come together as he makes sense of the world is amazing. To witness a human evolve before your eyes is quite the sight and I love it!

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) My favorite by far to this day has been making sure there are wipes and diapers in every main area of the house. Call me “lazy” but it’s the best. And it was especially helpful when he was a tiny baby.

What is the best part about where you live? This is where grew up, so I love that a great majority of my family lives nearby in the Metro Detroit area. It’s nice to be able to see them often and have them be apart of my child life as he grows up.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We enjoy doing things all over the Metro Detroit Area. We truly love visiting our local museums, libraries, parks, restaurants and other attractions. And in the summer it’s nice to hangout in Downtown Detroit as there so much to do and enjoy as a family.

Favorite date night in your hometown. Going out to eat at our favorite restaurant and truly enjoying each other’s company. And we often even do weekday date nights at home which we love!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without? 1. My husband 2. My phone 3. The Gym 4. Sleep 5. Candle lit Bathes

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? 1. Change of clothes for the kid 2. Lotion 3. Toys (mini people and cars specifically) 4. Diapers and wipes of course 5. Snacks

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I love doing mindless stuff like watching reality TV, surfing social media or day dreaming in a candlelit bubble bath.

Who are your “mom idols”?  My grandmothers for sure!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? I currently have 2 main mom tribes. Mom Tribe #1 is my friends from elementary school. There’s a group of 4 of us and we’re all now moms and I absolutely love we get to parent alongside one another. Mom Tribe #2 is my fellow mom contributors and community moms all connected to Detroit Moms Blog which is a online/ offline collective community of Metro Detroit moms

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Don’t sweat the small stuff! And wholeheartedly trust your instincts and motherhood intuition.

How do you balance it all? My husband and the gym (with childcare) helps me maintain a bit of balance and sanity on the regular.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? It would be a combination of Q.U.E.E.N.” by Janelle Monáe and Erykah Badu & “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé.

Work life: I am a stay at home mom but work part-time as a blogger. I own a motherhood and lifestyle blog and run all my social medias. In my spare time, I am connecting with brands, answering emails, or creating content that captures my everyday life and shares a piece of my journey through motherhood.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? The biggest reward of motherhood is watching your child grow and learn about the world around them. The bond that you have with them is also very magical and rewarding. Their hugs and kisses is the cherry on top!

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) My best “mom hack” is to pretend frozen fruit is ice cream! My son has recently fallen in love with ice cream from the few times he’s had it, because I like to limit how much ice cream he can have in a week, we now give him frozen fruit and tell him its ice cream and he falls for it everytime! He hasn’t had ice cream in over two months and doesn’t know.

What is the best part about where you live? We have a great community that supports one another. We also love the fact that there are many locations and opportunities for children to take part in and experience as they grow. We also love that we get to experience all four seasons in a year and are surrounded by so much beautiful nature.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We love to take walks in nearby parks and learn more about nature. We find it to be refreshing a great hands on learning experience for my toddler.

Favorite date night in your hometown. I love to have a decedent pastry with a good coffee or tea at Gateaux Patisserie with my husband.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

  1. Facetime – with being distant from my family, this helps my son connect with them and keep him busy for a few minutes a day while I get something quick done. They’re good at entertaining him and he enjoys talking to them.
  2. Books – we read a lot of books a day and it’s always a way to get us both to wind down and relax
  3. Family – they provide so much support when I need a break
  4. Google – I feel like I find an answer or just support online somewhere when I’m feeling down or lost
  5. Coffee – Sometimes the only way to get my energy back to chase around my toddler is by having a big cup of coffee

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

  1. Snacks, snacks, snacks!
  2. Change of clothes.
  3. Baby wipes.
  4. Water bottle.
  5. Blanket.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I love going out and taking photos, blogging, or catching up with a friend over coffee!

Who are your “mom idols”?  My mom is my biggest mom idol. I can now see how she sacrificed so much for my sisters and I to provide us with the best life possible and have learned to appreciate her much more. I also have 2-3 friends that have a similar mindset of the way we believe we should parent and I am constantly learning and inspired by them.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them?  My mom tribe consists of 5 moms that I met through a detroit blogger meetup. They introduced me to the blogging world and are all creatives in one way or another. We also parent similarly and have similar beliefs.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Don’t fall into the trap of feeling judged or criticized by others for the choices you make towards your children. At the end of the day, you know what’s best for you and your child and will not be able to impress everyone. Focus on the health of you and your children since that’s all that matters.

How do you balance it all? By asking for help and prioritizing what I need to get done. When I feel like I need a break, I ask for it and luckily my husband or one of my family members will watch my son so I can relax. I also don’t try to accomplish everything in one day as I know this isn’t realistic. I pick and choose 2-3 things to accomplish in one day instead of the 10 things I have on my to-do list. This makes me feel more comfortable and allows me to spend time with my toddler without feeling like I need to be getting something else done. I also lower my expectations on what I can get done which has helped a lot.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? Stronger by Kelly Clarkson

Age: 31

Kid(s) and Ages:  Raymond – 4, Brady – 4, Max 1

Where do you live? Metro Detroit

Work life: I work part time at a local accounting firm as an admin / bookkeeper. I also run the blog for our family, Raising Little Princes.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Watching these boys grow into little gentlemen and having someone that loves me as much as they do.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Choices. I always give the boys two choices.  That way they believe they are in control of the situation.

What is the best part about where you live? I have lived in the same city all of my life. I love that my family is all so close.  I grew up so close to my cousins and I am so glad my boys get to do the same.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. The zoo is probably our favorite place to go. If you don’t have a membership, get one or it’s a great present for family to get the kids.

Favorite date night in your hometown. Out to dinner.  We love Waves and Bad Brads.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?  My mom, quiet time, starfall ABC’s (no wifi needed app), LEGOs and Disney.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Wipes, diapers, snacks, apple sauce pouches, toys

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Fill out sweepstakes.  My aunt got me hooked years ago and I have won some fun things for my family.

Who are your “mom idols”?  My mom – she is amazing.  Is always going above an beyond what any other moms do, and can parent my kids better than me.  I hope I can be  the same kind of mom to my boys.

My sister – she is a rock star single mom all while being a high school counselor to students that really need her.

Cat & Nat – if you don’t follow them you need to.

@modernfarmhousefamily – boy mom and does and amazing job and gives so many tips.

@busytoddler – shows amazing projectes to do with kids, and shows you all sides of motherhood most leave out.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My cousins, sister and I all had our kids a couple weeks apart.  We are experiencing all of the mom things at the same time and it is so much fun.  I am also apart of MOPS which has been amazing.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? There will be tough seasons, but know you are not along.  People will show you the amazing side of motherhood on social media, but know that they are facing the same struggles.

How do you balance it all? I don’t. I fail way more than I would like to admit, but I always make time for my kids and they will also know how much I love them.  The young years are so stressful, but SO short. I just try to cherish them and know that sometimes it’s okay to not be able to do it all.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? I am not sure but something about having a chaotic life.

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: My blog Raising Little Princes, is about life with my three boys.  We take you on our day to day adventures, but I also don’t pretend every day is perfect, because it isn’t.  I want moms to know that even when life is crazy still do all the things.  They make the best memories. I love to do giveaways as well help my followers create those amazing memories, like I am with my boys. Blog – Raisinglittleprinces.com
