Name: Jen Biswas

Age: 35

Kid(s) and Ages: Roy (3), Penelope (2) + Miles (newbie!)

Where do you live? Minneapolis

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life I am a blogger! I run Paisley + Sparrow, a place to help you bring joy to your life, style and home through fashion tips, home décor inspiration and encouragement for your everyday.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Just all of the moments of pure joy and fun I have with my kids! Whether it’s playing soccer or blowing bubbles or simply cuddles before bed each night, it’s the little moments that make motherhood so amazing.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? I actually have a whole blog post with 10 of them on my blog!  https://paisleyandsparrow.com/mom-hacks/

My favorite one is probably one my husband did – he put furniture pads on the doors of the kids’ rooms so it doesn’t make a sound when you close it! It makes checking in on them at night much more safe! 😉

What is the best part about where you live? The walkability. We live in South Minneapolis and can walk to restaurants, farmers markets, our church…just about everything!

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. I love Saturday morning walks to the farmers markets!

Favorite date night in your hometown. My husband and I love a good restaurant! We have one spot in town that we hit up every 6 weeks or so. We’ve become good friends with most of the staff so it’s more like hanging out with friends than a formal dinner!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?  My Austin Fowler backpack diaper bag (seriously the best…and I’ve been through like 5 different ones!), Uppa Baby Vista (our daily walks keep us all sane!), bubbles (they are always a mood booster), my phone (gotta document the always changing stages) and music (dance party, anyone?!).

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Fig bars (my kids will eat them whenever, wherever!), hair ties (have you seen Penelope’s hair??), hand sanitizer, baby wipes and my water bottle.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Get facials or my nails done! I never do either so when I actually go do one of them it’s such a treat!

Who are your “mom idols”?  My own mom!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? I have 3 different mom tribes! One consists of 2 high school friends – we get together for monthly dinners for some much needed girl time. One consists of blogger friends – those mamas who understand life as an entrepreneur AND a mom and the other is my church friends – girls who see me weekly when I have everything all together and when I’m falling apart!

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Your kids need a happy mom so don’t forget to take care of you! There’s so much pressure on moms to do it all but you just can’t possibly do everything! Have grace with yourself and do the best you can because that’s all your kids need!

How do you balance it all? I don’t haha! We do have some help (a nanny who comes 2-3 days a week and a house cleaner who deep cleans every other week) which is a life saver! When it comes to my work, there’s often times early mornings and late nights getting things done so I can spend time with my kids during the day. Each day is different and figuring out how to balance everything is always changing!

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I blog over at Paisley + Sparrow (https://paisleyandsparrow.com/) where I share everything from hair tutorials to mom hacks to plant tips! I love encouraging women to be the best version of yourself and to truly live a joy-filled life! You can find me on Instagram @paisleyandsparrow!

Name: Morgan Molitor

Age: 35

Kid(s) and Ages: Greyson (5) and Beckam (2)

Where do you live? Elk River, MN

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: My husband, Jamie, and I own construction2style which is a design + build interior residential remodeling company and DIY home improvement blog. As an owner of a company I wear a lot of hats and juggle all the things such as… design, marketing, billing, bookkeeping, emails, customer service, writing, styling… and more…

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Seeing my babies discover, try and conquer new things and watch how much joy and happiness it brings to their little faces!

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Getting our five year old to bed is a daily struggle. We started giving him a “star” each time he goes so to bed and after 5 stores he gets to go to the store to buy a toy. This has been a game changer! And then being he does it, and toys can get to be expensive… we bring him to GoodWill and he loves it! It’s almost like a little treasure hunt for him. In the end it only costs us a couple bucks and makes for our bedtime routine so much less stressful.

What is the best part about where you live? It has a small town feel… there something charming about Elk River’s old downtown main street that is right on the Mississippi River and the businesses that operate there.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. Kayak the Mississippi River.

Favorite date night in your hometown. We love going to Old Main Eatery, small town local breakfast joint. Nothing makes our hearts happier and they cook a mean breakfast!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without? My calendar, the boys strider bikes, coffee, wine, my other working mom friends.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Diapers, Wipes, Hand sanitizer, lotion, DIY essential oil butt cream.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Poor myself a glass of wine, turn on some worship music, and write.

Who are your “mom idols”?  My Grandma Helen. My Grandpa was in Congress so she pretty much she raised 7 incredible human beings on her own, lost 2 children, yet still maintained a strong relationship with her husband and faith. To this day my Grandparents have been there for their children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren when in need without asking one question. She is a selfless, strong, fun, energetic, loving and creative Grandma and I strive to be a woman with all of those characteristics!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? Jen from Paisley & Sparrow, Katie Kath from JKath Design + Build, Chelsie Lopez from Chelsie Lopez Marketing… just to name a few! I met these girls off Instagram, at events and through connecting. I go to these three all the time when the juggle and struggle is real and they always help talk through things with me to make a positive difference and change. They always direct me what/who/where I need and get me back up again.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Work/ Life Balance will never be a thing. Silence the noise around you. Always, use your best YES, because when you say YES to some things you are saying No to your family… so make it count!

How do you balance it all? I don’t… ha! But what I do is pursue the things I love and am passionate about. I know my WHY in life when it comes to work or family and you can’t do it all. There will be days when you’re letting your family down and there will be days when you’re letting your clients, employees, and friends down. I just remind myself what I’m doing and why with every single choice each day and I always strive to make the best one that I can that day.

Where do you live? Minnesota

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I am a full time stay-at-home-mom turned blogger. I share about all things life and motherhood on my blog and share my daily shenanigans on Instagram.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood/fatherhood? I think my biggest reward is watching my kids grow into themselves. I love seeing them grow into their personalities and become their own people.

What’s your best “mom/dad-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) I like to pop my kids in the tub while I get ready; I feel like it’s a two-for-one because they get to play and stay busy while I’m right there to supervise and laugh along with them.

What is the best part about where you live? The four seasons! Each season is very distinct and there is a fun new list of activities for each!

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. My grandma lives on a lake so during the summer months we love to hang out on the lake shore and enjoy the sunshine!

Favorite date night in your hometown. We live in a fairly small town so there isn’t a ton to do, but we really enjoy just hanging out and talking honestly. Since there isn’t a ton of down time for the two of us to talk these days we snag out moments whenever we can!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom/dad” without?

  1. Coffee, let’s just be honest, it’s my go-to every morning when I’m being plied with the never ending questions lol
  2. Ring slings – I only just discovered ring slings with baby number 3 but I’m now a die hard ring sling mom! I can’t wait to use them again with my new addition!
  3. I also love Once Upon a Child because I can snag so many cute items for kids on a budget!
  4. A good stain fighter for stains! I usually pre-treat my kids clothes when they get stains on them so that it comes out in the wash.
  5. I journal daily and have a short devotional time. Reading the Bible and putting some of my thoughts down on paper help me to stay grounded through all the craziness of motherhood.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

  1. A spare outfit. When my babies are little I always try to make sure I have spare outfit packed for them because we all know blow-outs are imminent.
  2. Snacks! For mama and babies. Kids are always hungry and once in awhile our errands last longer than expected, so it’s always nice to have snacks at hand.
  3. Bandaids. I always have some bandaids because boo-boos happen.
  4. Deodorant. I have a tiny tube of travel deodorant that I keep in a pocket because for some reason I always seem to stumble out of my house without putting some on!
  5. A paci. I like to have one pacifier that I keep on a “leash” for when we go out and about. I try to make sure to put it back in my bag so that I always have one.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I love reading, I can devour a book in a few hours if given the time to read it! I love historical fiction and period novels.

Who are your “mom/dad idols”? I have quite a few, but they’re all ladies from my church so names are sort of irrelevant lol I love gleaning information from moms with experience and knowledge. I’m always so grateful when they’re willing to answer the hard questions and encourage me.

Who is in your mom/dad tribe and how did you meet them? My younger sister is my person; we hang out regularly, have kids the same age, and get along really well so she’s one of my closest friends. I also lean heavily on my family for help and support; we moved back to MN to be able to be near them and I’m very grateful we did!

What is one piece of advice for new moms/dads that you wish someone told you before mother/fatherhood? Take care of yourself; postpartum, during those early years, always. Sometimes we lose ourselves in our role as mom as it can be such an all-consuming responsibility but it’s important to take care of yourself too so you’re at your best for them.

How do you balance it all? Ha ha balance is a myth; no really it is, stop stressing! I juggle the crazy by focusing on one thing at a time. Some days we focus heavily on home life, another just being together as a family, and some days I have to focus more heavily on work.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? Hmmmm that’s a hard one but it probably would be one of the parodies I did for my Instagram page. I re-did 7 Rings by Ariana Grande a little while ago and it still is one of my favorites!

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: My goal on social media is to create a safe place for women and mamas to come and laugh, share their hearts, and been seen/heard. It is so important and women that have have a safe, judgement free zone to share our struggles -and our triumphs! While I’m not perfect by any means, nor do I have life or motherhood figured out, I’m happy to share my real every-day life with others in an effort to help mamas everywhere feel a bit more normal. You can find me daily on Instagram at @honestlymommy; peep my stories because that’s where the real fun happens! I also share regularly on my blog www.heyhonestlymommy.com; I love sharing helpful information, reviews, raw pieces about motherhood, and more. And lately I’ve been working hard on some new video content on YouTube including sharing some very emotional and vulnerable pieces about my recent pregnancy along with fun stuff like maternity try-on videos and day in the life. So if you’re looking for me just find honestlymommy on basically any platform, look for the crazy lady with purple hair and that’ll be me!  You can read even more about Stephanie + see some of her new mom must haves in her BCB Crib Notes From A New Mom!

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Shayne Wells

Age: 37

Kid(s) and Ages: Kerris, 6 years old & Tillman ‘Till’ 2.5 years old

Where do you live? West Bloomington

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life: I work at Fox 9 News and have been here for 5 years now. Currently, I’m the morning feature reporter on the #1 rated local morning show in the metro. I introduce viewers to the fun people and happenings in the Twin Cities.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood/fatherhood? This can’t be summed up with a simple answer. Working in this career and having been a breaking news reporter, the business can harden you. Having kids has given me a heart again, it’s just the deepest love and I can’t imagine life without them.

What’s your best “mom/dad-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) A few years ago, my oldest (who was three at the time) started yelling at 5am every morning ‘is it wake up time?’ I did some research and ended up trying the ‘Ok to Wake’ alarm clock. She knows she can’t get out of bed unless the light is green and it saved our sleep. I’m a big fan.

What is the best part about where you live? We are just minutes from 169, 100 and 494 so the location is convenient for getting around the metro, but you can also get completely lost in nature in the Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve. And parents, there are some amazing and affordable nature camps at the Richardson Nature Center.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. I’m from Washington State. My daughter has been there twice and my son will go for the first time this summer. One of the things I miss most is the mountains and hiking. We always make sure to get some hikes in when we visit my family.

Favorite date night in your hometown: The NorthStar Tavern off Normandale and 98th has become a favorite spot to grab a bite and drinks.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom/dad” without?

  1. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee and more Coffee, I usually wake up in the 4am hour, work a full job and then go on mom duty for after school pickup. Coffee helps me function.
  2. Fruit Snacks (I know they’re not healthy, but my kids will do anything for fruit snacks)
  3. Da Bomb Bath Fizzers, always get the kids in the bath without a fight
  4. Concealer, to hide the bags under my eyes and help me appear bright-eyed and rested on the morning news (especially partial to the Benefit brand, Boing Concealer)
  5. We don’t really use baby products anymore, but some of my favorites were Zutano booties because they didn’t come off like most booties, and the Copper Pearl car seat covers and bandana bibs

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? I’m done with the diaper bag, and now carry a small backpack with a diaper and wipes (we’re in the process of potty training), but when I carried one it had to have boogie wipes, a portable changing pad, and I loved having a nylon diaper bag my second time around because you could wipe it clean.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I’m pretty basic in that I am just happy to watch some TV. I don’t get to watch much these days. Currently bingeing Schitt’s Creek on Netflix. I’ve also become a big fan of taking classes at the gym. They offer childcare so I can get a workout in and my kids get in some playtime. It’s a win-win.

Who are your “mom/dad idols”?  My parents, it’s corny but true. They were and are still wonderful parents and now grandparents as well.

Who is in your mom/dad tribe and how did you meet them? We have an amazing tribe. I’m so lucky to have met this group of families at Kerris’ preschool. We have so much fun getting the kids together, but also going out for dinners or brunch without the kids. Our girls are now in the same elementary school. We leaned heavily on each other those first few weeks of kindergarten and it made all the difference. Kerris had familiar faces greeting her and we had each other to compare experiences.

What is one piece of advice for new moms/dads that you wish someone told you before mother/fatherhood? Be careful on social media platforms like Instagram. It’s easy to start comparing yourself and your children to others. Do things at a pace you’re comfortable with and know that no matter how effortless your favorite influencer makes it look, the reality is it’s not pretty, it’s not easy, and it’s okay to admit that.

How do you balance it all? I do my best, like all of us, but sometimes I just have to let my house be messy, and put a pre-made meal in the oven for dinner. I have to tell myself often, that my kids are safe, happy and healthy and that’s the most important thing.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? The song ‘Breathe’ by Telepopmusik speaks to me. It has an upbeat soothing rhythm and it reminds you over and over to ‘just breathe.’ Life moves fast even though the days can feel so long. Sometimes I need to remember to just stop, breathe, and take in the moment.

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I’m most active on Instagram but I also have a Twitter account. I ditched Facebook a few years ago (and I don’t miss it). @shaynewells on Instagram @shaynewellsmsp on Twitter

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Nicole Pierson

Age: 34

Kid(s) and Ages: Henry (4) and Luke (1.5)

Where do you live? Minneapolis, MN

Work life:  I am an elementary school teacher currently staying home with my boys, I blog at Begin at Home.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? The biggest reward for me is seeing my children grow in to kind, confident, and empathetic people.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!)  Set a goal or a couple of tasks to get done during nap time every day.  My goals while my kids nap/rest are: tidying the house, having dinner planned and prepped if possible, and doing a load of laundry.  When you focus on the same goals day after day, it becomes second nature and helps life run more smoothly.

What is the best part about where you live? I love that Minnesota truly experiences all four seasons.  I’m a big proponent of outdoor play, and we head outside even when the temperature drops below freezing.  Minnesota is truly beautiful all year round.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We love going to the Nature Center for outdoor play and exploration.  We are also huge fans of the public library.  We love going to storytime, meeting friends at the library for play dates, and checking out a hefty stack of new books each week.

Favorite date night in your hometown. We love trying new restaurants in our area and following dinner with a walk on one of our city’s amazing trails.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?  My Dyson cordless vacuum.  Ikea Skubb drawer organizers. Kirkland brand baby wipes.  High quality picture books. My Simplified planner to track goals and keep me organized.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? A change of clothes for each of my kids, a wet bag, board books, snacks, and a Aden and Anais stroller blanket.

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I love to read, walk, clean and organize our house, and meet friends for dinner.

Who are your “mom idols”? My own mom and my mother in law are both incredible moms.  My mom is a constant supporter and keeps me calm and focused on what matters most.  My mother in law is the most selfless and caring mother!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My mom tribe includes former teacher colleagues, my fantastic neighbors, and the inspiring moms I’ve met through my blog.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Don’t become hyper focused on growth percentiles for your infant.  I spent so much time worrying that my oldest son was not growing quickly enough/getting enough breastmilk.  Now, he’s a healthy, thriving, clever, active, tall, and average weight 4 year old.

How do you balance it all? Some days I feel like I balance it all better than others.  For me, what keeps me feeling sane is the systems I have in place for the mundane things like keeping the house clean and cooking for my family.  Because I’m not stressed by a messy or cluttered home, I can fully focus on my family.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? One Love by Bob Marley

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I show young families that home life doesn’t have to be frazzled!  It is possible to have a clean, organized home.  It’s possible to live debt free.  It’s possible to cook dinner for your family most nights of the week.  Home should be your happy place and safe haven. I share my systems for cleaning and organization, meal planning, and living within our means. I believe that the simple things bring great joy.  I share about contentment and I can support you in creating your best life. I’d love to have you join me on Instagram, my main platform, @beginathome, Facebook: facebook.com/BeginAtHomeNicole

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Alyssa

Age: 34

Kid(s) and Ages: Girl mom, here! Finley is 5,  Laurel just turned 3 and JoJo is 1!

Where do you live?  Southwest Minnesota

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life I work from home where I run my own online retail gifting business, Gifted Grace! Gifting is my looove language so getting to do what I love is the best! My dream is to open a brick + mortar retail location – like constant day dream and  all the heart eyes. I’m also working on launching a blog I’ve been dreaming about for a long time – eeeeek! Something so fun about finally diving in and taking a chance on something so close to your heart. I can’t wait to share more about this in the near future, too!

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? It’s the random hugs, the sweet hand drawn pictures and notes, the I love you’s, the snuggles… I want to bottle that up and save it forever because I know no two days are the same and that life is always changing, so holding on to all the love that pours out of your kiddos… it’s the best. It’s also really cool to see them develop their own personalities and watch them grow into amazing little humans.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? ASK FOR HELP. Is this a mom hack? I think it is! It’s so easy to buy into the lie that we need to do it all, or that we’re the only ones who can do what our families need. There are other moms and other people in our lives who would be MORE than happy to help, and seriously they’re lifesavers. Use them.

What is the best part about where you live? We live in the same area we grew up in and it’s so cool to know the people that you + your kiddos interact with everyday. The fact that my girls have some of the same teachers and special people in their lives that my husband and I did when we were growing up is really unbelievably special. The communities in this area are like one big family and it’s pretty dang neat.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We love to frequent the old family owned bowling alley that’s been in town for FOREVER (I think the girls love it most because the owners always sneak them special treats). It’s always fun to walk down Main Street and stop in to pick up our mail at the post office since our little town doesn’t have delivery – the girls love to see the people + check the mailbox! Literally small town living at its finest!

Favorite date night in your hometown. We’re not too far from the Iowa Great Lakes so we love to venture down there

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?  1. My Phone (UGH, it pains me to write that, but honestly, I have to have it… Googling (though that’s a love-hate relationship, you feel me?), Texting my mom tribe, supporting other mamas, Google again 🙈, calls to doctors + dentists, Facetiming Family… I mean, come on… see… I had to include it)

2. Coffee – One of my favorite things to do (perhaps a bonus hack? 😜) is waking up to coffee brewing that my husband set the night before (so the real hack is having your husband set your coffee maker timer). It’s one of my favorite rituals… waking up do a dark quiet house, hearing the coffee brewing, pouring a cup, and sitting in the dark + quiet until everyone wakes up. Some days this is two hours of great alone time, sometimes it’s 4 minutes, but the coffee is the constant, and it’s one of my mom must haves!

3. Date Night – Hands down one of the things I do that makes me a better mom is take time for date nights with my hubby. I got really intentional about this after the birth of our third… if we don’t make it a priority it’s way too easy for days weeks or even MONTHS (yikes) to go by without having a couple hours child free to reconnect, talk, and just have some down time. Date nights don’t have to be crazy expensive or extravagant, but do something different and intentional, even if it’s grabbing takeout and going to a park. Date nights are a must have in my book.

4. Mom Friends + Babysitters – I’m cheating here and putting two answers into one bullet point, but these are seriously my LIFELINES and I couldn’t be the mom I am without them. There’s nothing like a mom friend to help you on the hard days, celebrate the good days, and everything in between. I always think about what a blessing it is that I can be constantly connected to my mom friends at a moments notice… I often wonder what moms from years gone by would think if they could see how we connect with each other now. Along with mom friends: babysitters. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE our high school baby sitters… they’re angels. My girls love them, we love them, and they love our kids and it’s the coolest thing to know your kids are loved by so many awesome people. Being able to leave your kiddos with someone you trust so you can grab groceries solo (hello mini mom vaca), get some work done, or have that ever important date night (see above) is priceless…babysitters + mom friends are life.

5. Jesus – Last but not least. There’s absolutely no way that it’d be humanly possible for me to mom without knowing that I have my own Heavenly Father taking care of me, teaching me, guiding me, and forever forgiving me. He’s the best example I have of how I want to parent and having him in my corner is by far the most important thing I need to mom.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Besides diapers + changes of clothes which I assume are a given, right? You can always find hair ties, bandaids, some kind of snack, hand sanitizer, and my planner in my mom bag!

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I absolutely love soakin in a hot bath with a good bath bomb or bath salts, reading (I forgot how much I loved to read and recently started again and it’s the best), making an Sbux run, wandering through antique shops, and getting out for a good power walk – (this sounds like an ideal day…I need this to happen soon).

Who are your “mom idols”?  I’ve been blessed with some pretty amazing mom role models in my life. My mom + grandmothers, aunts, sister, mother in law, and sisters in law and friends are all beautiful people, inside and out.  Each of these women are unique and very different but all have shown me how to be a pretty great mom. One of the most fascinating things to me is watching and learning from moms of all walks of life and seeing that while we all mother differently, the foundation is all the same… we love our children fiercely.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? So this is a FUN story (and one I will share more about in an upcoming blog post) but I started a Facebook group for some local friends since we’d all had our first babies around the same time… it actually started as an event, coffee at my house, and it’s GROWN to the most amazing, supportive, tight knit group of mamas and it’s been so beautiful to see the new moms who join grow in to amazing mothers who then support other new moms as they begin their motherhood journey. It’s SO rewarding – and one of my favorite places on the internet. I also am super blessed to have a core group of ride or die mama friends including my amazing sister who is a mom to two… seriously. These ladies are essential in helping me mom – even on the hardest of days.

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? You’re going to have so many feelings, so many questions, and SO MUCH ADVICE – it can be overwhelming. Ultimately, what I love to tell all new moms is this: “You’re the mom, and you have to do what’s best for you and your family – sometimes that’s easy, sometimes that’s hard. Sometimes people are going to question or hassle you about your decisions… but bottom line: you’re the mom, and you do what works for you.”

How do you balance it all? I don’t? Ha. In all seriousness, I feel like it’s less about balance, and more about learning to bob + weave. Some days, I nail it. Some days, I fail it. But each day I have to love on my family and try and do something to make the world just a pinch better than it was yesterday is a good day. Practically speaking, my paper planner is essential to helping me stay sane. Everything is in my planner… important dates and appointments of course, but also notes about what my girls said that day that I want to remember, little notes and thoughts I want to capture forever…sometimes I even let the girls draw little pictures in there. Being able to write things out to look back at later is essential in helping me keep as much straight as I possibly can.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? I really love to blast “Call Me Mother” by RuPaul but when I cruise with the girls we go with the So You Think You Can Dance? version because… language. *hides*

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it – please include all social handles  I’m so passionate about supporting mothers from all walks of life and it’s close to my heart to reiterate how much better motherhood is when we’re judging less, loving more, and encouraging always. Even if mamas are mothering different than we would. The love of a mother is universal and connecting over that is one of my loves.  It totally fills my heart to see how amazing it is when mamas come together and support each other.

I’m also very passionate about preserving family history and traditions, embracing and creating our own new traditions, and sharing about that. My soon to launch blog is going to be so fun… it’ll cover all my loves: motherhood, modern favorites and vintage classics both for mamas and littles… and families too! Along with reflections on embracing the beautiful chaos we call life. I’d love to connect with you! You can find me over on IG at @hailmarysandmerlot (and if you love all the things I chatted about above come follow along for details on my blog launch, too!)

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Samantha Vilendrer

Age: 30

Kid(s) and Ages: I have identical twin sons that are almost one year old!

Where do you live? The Twin Cities – Minnesota

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life:  I work part time in cancer research as a program coordinator! My group works with over 20 hospitals and clinics across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. My main responsibilities include onboarding new staff and making sure that our investigators, associates and staff are legally compliant to participate in federally funded cancer research.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Being a mother has been the most challenging yet rewarding experience of my life! Every day is full of rewards, but I think the biggest ones yet are hugs, kisses, smiles and laughs!

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Have diaper caddys that are stocked with diapers, wipes, and butt cream in every room!

What is the best part about where you live? I love being close to family and a variety of trails and parks!

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. Long family walks around the lakes!

Favorite date night in your hometown. Museums, Mini-Golf, dinner; I prefer anything that’s kid friendly!

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

* BCB (The app, events, community, and discounts are total lifesavers!)

* Stroller

* Baby Carrier

* Sound Machine

* Diaper Bag (and everything in it!)

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

* Phone

* Diapers/Wipes

* Extra Onesies

* Bottles

* Snacks for Everyone

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Writing/blogging are the only things that I really enjoy doing by myself. I’m very extraverted, so everything else is better with my family/friends!

Who are your “mom idols”?  My Mom and Grandma!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? I’ve met lots of great moms through work and social media, but most of them don’t have kids that are similar in age to mine or they live far away. I would love to find some new local mom friends with babies and/or toddlers! Gearapalooza and the other BCB events seem like great opportunities for that!

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Start baby proofing as soon as you find out that you’re expecting! This is a huge task because babies get into everything!

How do you balance it all? I just prioritize and do the best I can! Our house looks like a daycare center, but I don’t even mind because being present with my kids is what’s most important to me! I will never look back and wish that I had done the dishes or laundry sooner. Having a great support team is extremely helpful too!

We Want You To Meet…

Name:   Kiersten Linnea Papp

Age: 27

Kid(s) and Ages: Brooklynn Linnea Papp (1.5 years old)

Where do you live? Woodbury, Minnesota

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life” I am mostly a stay-at-home mom, blogger, and I also work two days behind the chair as a hairstylist at Just Cuz Beauty Boutique in downtown Stillwater, MN. Needless to say, I stay very busy!

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Reliving moments and the simple things of life through your children(childs) life. It brings me peace, joy, and a reminder of how to be thankful for the everyday little things in life.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!)  Hmm, this is a tricky one because there are so many! My favorite “mom-hack” would be when you go grocery shopping, to let your kids eat some of the food your going to be buying. It keeps them happy and allows me to go through every aisle. Lately, Brooke likes to eat strawberries, bananas and we open up a bag of veggie straws 🙂

What is the best part about where you live? The change of seasons. We get to be outside so much and enjoy different types of weather. Brooke could live outside if I let her!

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. Go to the local ice cream shop and walk downtown by the river. I grew up in Stillwater, MN, so it’s fun to take her downtown and recreate memories I did with my family growing up.

Favorite date night in your hometown. Favorite date is always hands down dinner and a movie. Nothing beats sitting out on the patio with a cocktail in hand, water screaming, followed by some popcorn and a movie.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without? 1. Tommee-Tippee products (specifically bottles and sippy cups)

  1. Our stroller that we have worn down from traveling so much with Brooke
  2. Sound machine for nap time
  3. The Zipadee-Zip from Sleeeping Baby allowed Brooke to sleep through the night from 5 weeks old when she outgrew it around 14 months old.
  4. My team of friends and family when I think I’ve lost my mind

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

  1. Diapers/wipes
  2. sippy cup
  3. “Baba” aka Milk
  4. snacks (teething crackers, fruit pouches, gold fish, etc.)
  5. extra clothes/blanket

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? Free time doesn’t seem to happen often these days, but when it does a trip to Starbucks to get myself a HOT coffee and head over to Target to aimlessly stroll the aisles is always a nice treat. Otherwise, I work on my blog, organize the house, craft something, bake something tasty, or honestly just sit in peace in quiet and soak it in!

Who are your “mom idols”?   My mother. She has taught me everything I know. She is a great role model, and an even better grandma. I also look to my friends and family who have kids. As a mom you need all the support you can get!

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My mom tribe consists of 5 amazing ladies that I have known since I was a little girl myself. We all got married and started having kids at the same time, and oddly enough moved back to surrounding nearby areas. Even though it’s crazy at times (as our children are literally months apart) we have each other to call in the middle of the night. To cry, to laugh with, to help support. I wouldn’t be where I am without them!

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? Don’t be hard on yourself. Becoming a mom is a journey. I am still learning everyday. I mess up everyday, but strive to be better. Give yourself grace and patience and remember this: at the end of the day all your child knows is you. You are their world. You do everything right in their eyes, so as long as you show them love unconditionally, you’re already exceeding as a mom!

How do you balance it all? Truthfully, I don’t. I try my best to find a balance, but I would be lying if I said our life is perfectly balanced. There is always going to be something changing. If I have learned anything in the last year and a half of being a mom it’s that right when you think you have a good balance or schedule, something happens. It’s how you handle the change that matters. It’s something I am still working on every day.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? “Hakuna-ma-ta-ta” from the Lion King. Helps me not get so stressed out by the things that don’t really matter 🙂

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: I started my blog almost a year ago. I have always wanted a space to share my journey as a mom, my love for fashion, and simply the beauty of life. I have learned so much from other bloggers’ stories, and I felt I wanted to share my own. I love to share real life stories, vulnerability of the stages of motherhood, and ways that have helped me to overcome them.  My mission is to help inspire all women and help mothers be the best mom they can be. I like to share everyday tips-and-tricks for moms, budget friendly fashion, DIY projects, decor, recipes, and all things beauty. Our world is filled with so much beauty, and my hope is to help bring a little bit of that to women around the globe.

We Want You To Meet…

Name:  Debbie McLoughlin

Age:  39

Kid(s) and Ages:  Gradie – 6 years old.  Hazel – 17 months old

Where do you live? St Paul, Minnesota

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life:  I am an accountant by trade, I have my CPA, CMA & MBA and currently am an Assistant Controller at a marketing company in St Paul, MN.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? There isn’t just one reward, from breastfeeding my first daughter, to having both of my daughter’s squeal MAMA and run into my arms after a day at work, how can that compare to anything?  They are my reward, every single day (even the hard days when you wish for bed time)

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Using a straw in a go-gurt before my daughters were able to master the concept of squeezing it up slowly without spilling it all over.

What is the best part about where you live?   We moved to Woodbury, MN 2 summers ago and the absolute best part of living here is the huge parks & trails system. There is a park for everyone in your family, all within a couple blocks, if that, of your home.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown.

MN Children’s Museum,

Going skating (in the winter),

Going to the park – all the parks

Favorite date night in your hometown.

Honestly, we don’t go on many, if we do it’s usually dinner and a movie.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom” without?

Google family link (to monitor and control screen time)

YouTube kids

Door Dash

Grocery Delivery

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag?

Wipes,

Sunscreen,

Change of clothes,

SNACKS,

Oh yeah – diapers

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? I catch up on blogging or I ride on my in-home spinning bike – I would LIKE to be taking a nap, but that doesn’t usually work out 😊

Who are your “mom idols”?  As cliché as it sounds, my own mother.  She had 4 of us kids and somehow held it all together. I don’t recall a time I felt left out, she was always there, she had us up and off to school, lunches packed, dinners cooked, attended as many sporting events/practices as she could, despite us ALL been in different sports in the same seasons.  I strive to be a mother as amazing as my own was and if I a reach half of her ‘awesome status’ then I will feel that I have succeeded.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My wife, our friend Molly, who we met online in a neighborhood chat when we were both moving to Woodbury, sisters-in-law

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood? You’ll likely never feel you’re doing everything ‘right’, you’ll question yourself constantly and most of the time you won’t know the answer, but you and your kids will survive, you’ll get through it, maybe with some bumps and bruises, but you’ll all get through.

How do you balance it all? I don’t know – sometimes things fall apart and that’s when we pick up the pieces and work on putting it back together.  No one has this ALL balanced – take it easy on yourself, realize and accept that at times we just don’t have it all figured out and that’s OKAY!!

If you had a theme song, what would it be? I will survive

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it: My blog has taken a few turns since I started in 2010.  I started out knowing NOTHING of the blogging world, and while I don’t know that much more now (hehe) I have changed directions along the way.  I love sharing about our family, our family structure with two moms and of course sharing all about our beautiful daughter’s.  I am trying to focus on the ‘non-traditional’ family as a means of educating others that at the end of the day all families are trying to achieve the same thing, what is best for our kids and our significant others.

We Want You To Meet…

Name:  Anahita Champion

Age: 35

Kid(s) and Ages: Daughter Roya, 3.5 years old

Where do you live? St. Paul

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Work life I’d proud to call myself a MomBoss. I owned & operated a PR and Brand Consulting company for 7 years, and when my daughter was an infant I found myself overwhelmed by the chaotic mess around me. You know, the piles of laundry, errands that I had intended on running for days, house cleaning that was long overdue and my own lack of self-care. It was then, in 2016, when I launched my second business: Twin Cities Mobile Mommy. TCMM is a concierge service for busy families (like myself) that helps lend a set of hands with home upkeep, organizing, running errands, planning a party, on-site supervision, and other magical services.  We are so thrilled to support families of the Twin Cities and help reduce their stress of all the daily tasks and TO-DOs.

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood/fatherhood? From the early days and still today, I have been so amazed by the small moments that intrigue my daughter like how fascinating an Ant can be or how playing in a pile of leaves can be so entertaining. Her expressions and commentary make me appreciate these things more than ever.

What’s your best “mom/dad-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? This is the essence of Twin Cities Mobile Mommy, and I’ll share my absolute favorite one. I use the “Rule of 3” for tackling our To-Do lists. Grab a piece of paper, jot down everything you need to do. Circle what you can delegate to someone else, then mark the items you can automate (bills, carpool, etc), and the last part is to scratch off what you can eliminate altogether in this moment. The less you physically do, the more your mind will be at ease with not having to live up to your own expectations. Then the best part…..when you complete something you’re proud of (which might be a task, making your bed that day, or planning an elaborate bday party), write that accomplishment on a slip of paper and put it in a “Ta-Da” jar. This is your accomplishments jar for the year! Go through it at the end of the year to give yourself recognition for all the amazing things you have done.

What is the best part about where you live? We love going to Como Zoo on Thursdays for their Lil Explorer Day, and it’s so nice that we live 5 minutes away to be able to cruise down the neighborhood every week. We also live down the block from the famous “Conny’s Creamy Cone” which has 24+ incredible flavors of soft serve ice cream. Mmm

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown. We love exploring in general. That might be a frequent visit to the Central Park in Roseville where we go on a nice walk, talk about all the nature things we see & then stop at their 2 playgrounds, or even when we go on “adventures” to Menards or IKEA. We don’t take our outings lightly 🙂

Favorite date night in your hometown. My husband is so creative with his date night ideas, and one of the best dates we’ve had was when we went rock climbing to Vertical Endeavors. The team & cheerleader feeling + a little competitive element was so fun, playful and fulfilling.

What are 5 things that you could not “mom/dad” without?  I mean, you make do with what you have….but I’ll say that these few things have been SUPER helpful: Aldi’s organic kid’s snacks are so amazing, the Noggin App on the TC/iPad, the library books that show diverse families, and in the first 2 years our Paci was a survival tool, haha.

What are your 5 must-have items in your diaper bag? Diaper bag to the toddler’s backpack & my own bag…I’ve always had snacks. Snacks for her & snacks for myself. They have  been a lifesaver almost daily. Good ole hand wipes, change of kid clothes, phone charger and chapstick have all been essentials, too 🙂

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do? As silly as this may sound, I like to actually get some work done. I work from home, and usually the toddler needs my attention every 5-7 minutes, so being productive is pretty tricky. I love going to a nearby coffee shop, grabbing a treat and dialing into my business tasks for a bit. Outside of that, a manicure and wine night with a girlfriend is absolutely glorious.

Who are your “mom/dad idols”?  I adore the Moms/Dads that are a bit older than I am. The parents that have been where I am, and can appreciate the hard word & sweet moments, but who are also so kind and supportive to share their insight and wisdom with me. I’m also a huge fan of my best friend, Christine. She survived a domestic abuse situation, and now she and her 2 boys are thriving in their sweet life they have rebuilt. She’s a strong and dedicated single mom, and I admire her so incredibly much.

Who is in your mom/dad tribe and how did you meet them? I have met so many incredible women and men over the past 10 years that have each grown their families, and when we’re there to cheer each other on and be there for milestones it’s so amazing to see. Some I met through different work projects, but most recently I’ve met some wonderful Moms through our community ECFE. I’ve also recruited a “TC MomSquad” to join the TC Mobile Mommy team, and it’s been rewarding in so many ways.

What is one piece of advice for new moms/dads that you wish someone told you before mother/fatherhood? There are no rules but your own. Parent at your own pace, listen to your gut and not what your friends are doing. Every child and parent is completely different, and what works for one family may not be a right method or decision for another family.

How do you balance it all? I don’t. Is this even a real concept? Lol I feel off balance most days, but I do my best with certain areas on certain days. Some days I declare a Pajama day, and we stay home, snack, watch movies and play. Other days, I feel like I’m on top of the world with getting out of the house, going on all sorts of adventures, knocking out several tasks, and getting ahead on work. That’s balance….knowing that some moments are great, and some moments are “meh.” I have grace with myself, and that’s the best thing I have done/worked on for myself.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? Easily “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys. I’m pretty proud that my 3 year old also loves this song.

Tell us a little bit about your blog/IG account/online persona and what is your mission behind it – please include all social handles (we want to urge our readers to follow you!)

I am extremely passionate about providing uplifting experiences for my audience and those around me. I value and support families, diverse communities and small businesses. I have a whole “On-Air Host” brand where I work on local shows and events around the Twin Cities, and I just love representing different brands and companies. I also love the camera 🙂 Whether in small business or community engagement, I truly think we can all grow better when we work together and not be in competition with one another. We Want You To Meet… Name: Laura Johnson

Age: 30

Kids: Jake (7), Taylor (5), Easton (2), + Lennon (9 months, born January 9th, 2019)

Where I live: near Crosslake, MN

Tell us a little bit about yourself..

Work: SAHM + homeschooling mama

Biggest reward about motherhood: being able to watch my babies grow and spending every day with them. Also, loving on them and seeing the way they love each other!

Mom tip: be quick to apologize and quick to forgive. I’m human and get angry + make mistakes. Teaching my kids the importance of “I’m sorry” + “I forgive you” has benefitted not only my relationship with them, but their relationship with each other.

Best part of where I live: living in the woods = peace + quiet! I love raising my kids where they can run wild + free in the great outdoors!

Favorite thing to do with my kids NEAR my hometown: go to the lake + boating in the summertime! Nothing beats it!

Favorite date night: We are from a SMALL hometown, very small (population = less than 1000)! So my favorite date night is a low key dinner at a local restaurant with the hubby!

5 things I can’t mom without: high waisted yoga pants, coffee, my Plexus pink drink, chocolate, + my Bible

5 must have items in diaper bag: DIAPERS, lots of wipes, hand sanitizer, extra set of clothes, small pouch with misc toys, small pouch with first aid items – can I say six?!

In my free time I like to: decorate, take pictures, + shop

Mom/dad idols: my own mama! She’s my neighbor, my best friend, and the one I turn to for so much advice!

Mom Tribe: too many friends/mamas I’ve met through Instagram to list!

One thing for new moms? It’s not as easy as it looks. It’s exhausting + challenging + REALLY HARD every single day. But it’s worth it 100% of the time! Also, be slow to judge. Never say “when I have a child, I will NEVER ______.” Because until you have a child, you don’t know. I have eaten my words plenty of times on things I previously said I’d NEVER do.

How do I balance it all? Coffee + Jesus.

Theme song: “You say” – Lauren Daigle

Blog/Instagram: My Instagram focuses on motherhood as well as home decor + holiday inspiration! I love sharing our life here in northern Minnesota, and I also love to add a touch of home style + every day celebrations. As far as I’m concerned, every day that we are alive, together, and healthy is a blessing and deserves to be celebrated!

We Want You To Meet…

Name: Jesse Brine – Minneapolis Market Leader

Name: Jesse Brine

Age: 34

Kids and ages: LJ (6) and Charlie (2.5)

Where do you live? Maple Grove, MN

Tell us why you have chosen to be a BCB Market Leader? I have been a member of BCB since I was pregnant with my oldest son and I absolutely LOVE the community. After working full-time in the medical technology field for 10 years and then deciding to stay-at-home with my boys I was thrilled to take on the role of BCB Market Leader for the Twin Cities and continue providing great events and resources for local parents all while still being able to have the perks of being at home with my boys.  You can follow Jesse on Instagram to stay up to date with all of the local events in MN!

What is your favorite part about Bump Club and Beyond? The community! I love chatting with parents at playdates and getting to know moms better by sharing ‘war stories’ after our workouts.

What does community mean to you? Community means having people who are in the same, or similar, situation as you and coming together to support one another.

Who is in your mom tribe and how did you meet them? My mom-tribe is made up of my neighbors (yay Balsam Lane crew!), college friends (Go Bennies and Johnnies!), ECFE moms, and of course wonderful women I’ve met through BCB!

What has been the biggest reward of motherhood? Watching my boys learn and grow into independent little men.

What’s your best “mom-hack” you think other moms could benefit from? (We all one at least one time or sanity saving tip that everyone would want to know…spill it!) Always keep extra snacks in the glove compartment of your car so you can appease a fussy kiddo.

What is the best part about where you live? The lakes and parks! There are so many great activities to do on the water in both the summer and winter and our parks system is incredible too.

Favorite thing to do with your kids in your hometown (this is a great place to share info about BCB VIP partners if they really are places you love!). I love bringing my boys to Eastman Nature Center to go on hikes and heading to Central Park in Maple Grove to play on the splash pad and playground during the Summer.

Favorite date night in your hometown. My husband and I LOVE going to Travail. We always know we’re going to have a unique experience tasting all of the different creations their chefs come up with.

What are five things that you could not “mom” without?  (Products, apps, anything that helps you to be a better mom.)

  1. My mom community
  2. PBS Kids
  3. Snacks
  4. Alexa being able to play dance music at anytime
  5. My membership to Lifetime Fitness so I can get 2.5 hours of kid-free time and the kiddos get fun time with their friends

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do. Take a long bath and read a good book.

Who are your “mom idols”?  (Moms you look up to as women and parents.) I aspire to be as organized and fun as @TheBusyToddler and @DaysWithGrey

What is one piece of advice for new moms that you wish someone told you before motherhood. It’s not as bad as it seems and you’re not alone. I remember thinking that I was the worst mom ever when I dropped my deodorant square on my child’s head from 3 feet up and he started crying. I started bawling when I told daycare about it because I didn’t want them worrying about where a bruised forehead came from. The daycare provider started laughing at me and let me know it wasn’t that bad and we’ve all done something unintentional and our kiddos will be fine. I have learned that it’s best to share my mom-stories with others as it makes us all feel a little better about our mishaps.

How do you balance it all? Saying ‘no’ and having a great partner! I try not to overcommit to too many things as I know I’ll just drive myself crazy. Also, I’m lucky to have an awesome husband who helps balance out all of my craziness.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? “Try Everything” by Shakira, AKA the theme song to Zootopia. I love this song and I sing it to myself all the time when I’m having a rough time or I feel like I’m failing. I just get back up and try again.
