Twin Cities: Family Winter Bucket List

By Emily Savage

Winter is here & we tapped our amazing Twin Cities BCB Market Leader, Jesse Brine @minnemommin, and our National Market Leader, Christina Kraft, to help us curate an awesome Top Winter Bucket List for all you MN Mamas to enjoy with your families! Jesse, 34, has two kiddos, LJ (6) and Charlie (2.5), and Christina, 34, has two girls, 2 and 4, and these are some of their favorite things to do as families!  Be sure to check them out + let us know what you think!

And don’t forget to check our BCB site for ongoing BCB Twin Cities events here — free playdates, workouts + more!  Now that’s some Winter fun!

Afton Alps Ski Area: Are you curious where I spend my winter weekends? Afton Alps is the place to be! They have group and private lessons for both adults and kiddos if you’ve never skied before, or if you’d like to refine your skills. Plus they have delicious food and drinks at their 3 chalets.
6600 Peller Ave S Hastings, MN 55033

MiniSota Play Café: Want to get out of the house, but don’t want to head into the cold? Stop in to MiniSota Play Café, perfect for little ones to stretch their imagination and they have great coffee drinks for the adults.
11191 Commerce Dr N Champlin, MN 55316

Ice Castles: If you haven’t been to see the Ice Castles yet you don’t know what you’re missing! The castles are built with over 10,000 icicles making for an enchanting experience that would make Anna and Elsa jealous.
1500 Old Highway 8 New Brighton, MN 55112
St. Paul Winter Carnival: Take in a parade, watch master ice-carvers do their stuff, and take in some live music. The St. Paul Winter Carnival has fun and FREE fun for all!
75 W 5th St St. Paul, MN 55102
Central Park Skating Loop: This LED lit refrigerated ice loop is a must see! Since the rink is refrigerated you can be out in warmer weather. Skating is free and skates are available for rent.
12000 Central Park Way Maple Grove, MN 55369
Holidazzle: Even though the parade is no longer, there’s lots of fun to be had at Holidazzle. Movies, fireworks, a kids zone, and interactive art are just some of the things you can check out at this annual Minneapolis fest!
1382 Willow St Minneapolis, MN 55403
The Dayton’s Project: Holiday Window Displays: We all miss having Dayton’s downtown Minneapolis, but you can check out some festive holiday window displays for a limited time to bring you back to your childhood.
700 Nicollet Ave Minneapolis, MN 55402
Santa’s North Pole Experience: Looking for the best way to see Santa? Santa’s North Pole Experience is a great way to go. Not only do you get to meet Santa outside of a mall, but you can stay and enjoy some treats, play games, and watch a Christmas movie too.
13600 Pioneer Trail Eden Prairie, MN 55347
Great Wolf Lodge: Need a vacation to somewhere warm, but don’t want to leave the state? Grab your swimsuit and enjoy a night or two at Great Wolf Lodge where you can relax in the warm swim area and your kids can get their energy out on all of the water attractions.
1700 American Blvd E Bloomington, MN 55425

Toddler Tuesdays at Mall of America: Swing by Mall of America on Tuesday mornings and get an unlimited ride wrist band for toddler-friendly rides at a discount. Plus, you can find a ton of discounted and/or BOGO lunch and dinner options.
60 E Broadway Bloomington, MN 55425

Skiing: weekend trips to Duluth and Grand Marais are so much fun but there are also local ski hills in the cities.
Indoor play areas:when you want to escape the cold, the malls have great indoor play areas, as well as many indoor playgrounds and trampoline parks across the cities.

Tree Lighting Ceremonies: we love attending local city tree lighting ceremonies where they turn on their lights for the season!  The city holiday lights are beautiful.

Christmas Lights Drive: our family loves to get into our pjs with a cup of hot cocoa and drive around neighborhoods looking at the Christmas lights.
Catch a Play at the Children’s Theater or Stages Theater: the Children’s theater in Minneapolis does a fabulous job keeping kids engaged with their twists on classic plays.  Cinderella is playing this winter and is a hilarious take on the movie while incorporating relevant music and jokes.

Saint Paul Winter Carnival: this is the oldest winter festival in the US.  Downtown St Paul turns into a winter wonderland with parades, music, and ice sculptures.
Winter in Bloom at the MN Landscape Arboretum: the MN Arboretum is light up with nature-inspired light displays, think flowers, trees, snowflakes, and more.

You Pick Christmas Trees: there is no better way to get a Christmas tree, than to go to a Christmas tree farm and cut one down yourself!

Start Growing your Veggie Garden: grab the kids to get dirty and plant seeds to start your seeds growing.  The kids have so much fun tending to and watching their veggies grow and when the ground thaws, plant them outside from some yummy treats!

We hope you enjoy this round-up of super fun activities and adventures to do with your kiddos in the Twin Cities this winter!  Leave us a comment & let us know what else we should add to the list.

Jesse is our Twin Cities Market Leader.  For her, the best part about living in the Twin Cities are the lakes and parks! “There are so many great activities to do on the water in both the summer and winter and our parks system is incredible too.”  Her best #momhack to throw in your back pocket when you’re heading out on summer adventures is: always keep extra snacks in the glove compartment of your car so you can appease a fussy kiddo!

Christina is our National Market Leader based in MN.  For her, the best part about living in the Twin Cities are the changing seasons!  After living in Arizona for 2 years, she is so happy to see green trees, changing colors and is beyond excited for winter!
