Baby gear and safety aside, the most popular questions we’re frequently asked is “what are your favorite three row cars for families?” Or “I’m having my third, what car do I need to properly fit my family safely with their car seats and boosters?”
Whether you’re expecting, have an existing brood or thinking about expanding your family, we know the great “minivan vs. SUV” debate is real. Team BCB recently visited the Chicago Auto Show. We’ve put together a list of our top family cars that you’re sure to get excited about!
The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is all new and coming to a dealership near you this fall! This updated version offers many new improvements and upgrades. One of our favorites is the option for All Wheel Drive (AWD) AND the Captain’s Chairs with Stow and Go® Seating. Previously you had to choose between the two. Additionally, the Pacifica has the largest in-dash screen of all minivans on the market with upgraded safety technology.
The middle row offers new and improved, state of the art in-seat entertainment systems. Perfect for those long drives to see Grandma and Grandpa. And, if luxury is what you are after, look no further than the Pinnacle model. It’s the ultimate in luxury with diamond stitched leather, a suede ceiling liner and Berber carpet floor mats. So, moms, now you know where you can escape when the kids are driving you crazy!
If German autos are more your style, then the VW Atlas is where it’s at! The Volkswagen Atlas came on the market three years ago. It’s quickly become a perfect SUV option for moms. With tons of space, it’s also stylish and maneuverable. While the changes to the 2020 model may seem subtle, if you’ve been following this vehicle, they’re noticeable. Updates include a new front bumper structure that includes pedestrian protection enhancements aimed at helping to intercept accidents before they happen. Additionally, inside you’ll find a new eight inch touchscreen unit, a new steering wheel equipped with infotainment and driver assist buttons, as well as a wireless charging station (every Mom’s best friend)!
One of most popular three row SUV’s on the market, the updated 2020 Toyota Highlander doesn’t disappoint. The XLE Package, viewed by Car and Driver as the “best value,” now comes standard with heated seats, a new wireless charging pad and large power sunroof. You can also add on All Wheel Drive and a new upgraded in-dash screen with upgraded navigation package. Even more exciting is that all models come with two extra feet of cargo space. This is crucial when fitting in your stroller, groceries and sports equipment. But unlike many of its competitors, it still has the option to fit seven or eight comfortably. Truly, no matter what your priority, Toyota offers a Highlander for every consumer.
One of the hottest new three row SUV’s that made its debut at the Auto Show is the Hyundai Palisade. Replacing the Santa Fe XL this version is so much larger and more luxurious. It offers seating for up to eight, power-fold seats in the second and third rows, and a one-touch button to quickly and easily access the third row. Perfect for kids to do on their own! Never lock yourself out or get into a cold car again with remote entry and remote start from Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. With up to seven USB ports too, you can power a home office on-the-go all while utilizing the large cargo space to store hockey gear and still have space for groceries!
Last but certainly not least, is the newly upgraded Kia Telluride. Recognized by the Midwest Automotive Media Group as the “2020 Family Vehicle of the Year,” the Kia Telluride is similar in structure and interior to its cousin the Palisade. However the Telluride sets itself apart with several unique family-friendly features. One of our favorites is the in-cabin intercom system. Don’t go hoarse yelling at your kids in the third row again with this voice amplification system! And if highway noise is one of your pet peeves, you’ll be excited to know that the Telluride can cruise at 70 MPH and still sound at a near whisper inside the cabin thanks to its acoustic windshield glass. This is especially helpful when the family is taking advantage of the in-car Infotainment System which features a large 10.3” screen. Dual panoramic sun-roofs, heated and cooled front and second row seats, premium luxury leather as well as extra leg room in the second and third row make this new SUV one to keep your eye on.
