It’s day four of BCB Spirit Week: THROUGH THE DECADES THURSDAY! Take some time today to talk to your kiddos about YOUR favorite decade. Maybe it was one you have lived through. Maybe it was one you WISHED you had lived through! Share photos from the time, talk about what was going on during the decade, play your favorite tunes and think of some fun ways to dress like you were in that decade! Share with your kiddos and dress them up too! Once you’re done, post a picture and check out the awesome activities we rounded up for you and your kiddos for some of our favorite decades today!
Make sure to share your spirit on Instagram! Tag @bumpclubandbeyond #BCBSpiritWeek for the chance to be featured AND to win awesome prizes. Spread the word and let your friends know!
SOME OF OUR FAVORITE DECADES TO TRY TODAY ARE:
1920’s: Set up a roaring 20’s party day today! Go with either a jazz or Great Gatsby theme! Silent movies were also the rage in the 1920’s so maybe pull up some Charlie Chaplin. And since movies were still in black and white, another idea would be to dress in black and white!
1950’s: Think drive-ins, carhops, soda fountains and Elvis. Today’s the perfect day to serve hot dogs and Coke floats for lunch! Think poodle skirts and jeans and T-shirts! The 1950’s brought on the beginning of the hula hoop also so why not add a hula hoop contest to the day’s activities!
1960’s: Pull out any old tie-dye shirts (or better yet make your own outside today, scroll down for easy directions!) and listen to the Beatles! Make crafts of peace signs and colorful love signs.
1970’s: Disco is a clear way to go for the 70s, but don’t rule out this decade for the bicentennial of the U.S.A. – 200 years was celebrated in 1976, and patriotic fever was all over! The 70’s also brought the start of the Star Wars movie franchise!
1980’s: Get our your neon and old cassette tapes! Print pictures to color of Madonna, Boy George, Wham, the Brat Pack, Prince, Ronald Reagan and Pac Man!
WHATEVER DECADE YOU CHOOSE, TRY SOME OF THESE FUN ACTIVITIES TO BRING IT TO LIFE
Spend a little extra time being creative today! Listen to songs from each decade while you do!
Bring the 50’s to life with sock hop coloring sheets and give your hand a try at making your own Elvis!
Do some tie-dye (with baby wipes) as a fun 1970s craft!
For kids on the older side, remember these? Have them make a couple to attach to their shoelaces!
Make Pac Man come to life with some craft supplies from your closet!
READ BOOKS!
Make your day all about learning about your favorite decade…or better yet, learn about more than one! Here are a few book reccos from two of our favorite decades, the 1980s and 1960s!
The Great Book of 1980s Trivia: Crazy Random Facts & 80s Trivia
Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1960S-1980S Collection
Creative Haven Fabulous Fashions of the 1960s Coloring Book
