Halloween Isn’t Cancelled: Ten+ Ideas for a Festive Celebration

By Lindsay Pinchuk

Without a doubt 2020 has been one of the spookiest years yet!  But even with so many cancellations and postponements, one thing is for certain, Halloween 2020 doesn’t have to be canned!  Team BCB put our heads together to come up with a full weekend’s worth of activities for your family to celebrate Halloween together, or with a couple close friends at a distance.   Take a look and DON’T FORGET TO JOIN THE BCB VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARADE ALL WEEKEND LONG!  Read to the bottom for details on how to join us!

  1. Have an Halloween Movie Marathon!  Some of our favorites include:
    • Little Monsters
    • Hocus Pocus
    • The Nightmare Before Christmas
    • Casper
    • The Witches
    • The Addams Family
    • Hotel Transylvania
    • Coraline
    • Beetlejuice
  2. Instead of trick-or-treating, BOO your friends!  Create Halloween themed treat packages and leave them on your friends’ doorsteps.   Write a note that they’ve been “Boo’d!” and challenge them to spread the cheer.  Leave them guessing who is thinking about them on Halloween!
  3. Have a Halloween Dance Party!   BCB Founder, Lindsay Pinchuk’s, shares her Halloween themed playlist here.   This is one that BOTH adults and kids are sure to love!
  4. Pumpkin Decorating “Party:”  Paint or carve pumpkins with your family while enjoying cider, donuts and other fall snacks,   When you’re all done, roast the pumpkin seeds for a healthy snack to last you through the weekend.   Want to make it a party?  Join some of our friends on Zoom or Skype and share your creations when you’re all done!
  5. Halloween Theme Scavenger Hunt:  Split up your family and take your kids around the neighborhood to find the Halloween themed items below!
  6. Halloween Crafts and Baking  Make a morning or afternoon of Halloween themed activities!  Some of our favorite crafts and recipes include:
  7. Celebrate with BCB and Stages Chicago during our Halloween Broadway and Me Sing-a-Long on Saturday!  CLICK FOR MORE INFO AND TO JOIN.
  8. Parents vs. Kids Halloween Games at home or outside:
    • Mummy Sack Race:  Wrap everyone’s legs with toilet paper or crepe paper and race from one side of the yard to the other.
    • Bob for Apples
    • Pumpkin Patch Stomp:  Put prizes in orange balloons and let your kids stomp to win!
    • Dig for Eyeballs:  Make a bowl of spaghetti and hide “eyeballs” (grapes work great!) inside.  Blindfold everyone and see how many eyeballs they can find!
    • Corn Hole
    • Pin the Spider on the Web
    • Play Halloween Bingo!  Here’s a great bingo sheet from One Creative Mommy
  9. Gather some of your neighbors or “in your bubble” friends and have a socially distant Halloween Parade!
  10. Turn your kitchen into a mad scientist lab!  Here are some ideas for what you can make inside:
  11. Join the BCB Virtual Halloween Parade!  Post pics of your kids in costume on Instagram and tag @bumpclubandbeyond #BCBoo.  Follow BCB and watch our stories all weekend long for BCB’s 2020 Halloween Parade!  We just might surprise some of our favorites with some BCB Goodies!
