TV Segment: Educational Resources for Parents

By Lindsay Pinchuk

With most of our kids home and virtual learning, parents (and kids) certainly can feel the difference of learning at home vs. in the classroom.  Now more than ever it’s important we work to keep our kids engaged and learning, even when they are not on their Zoom classrooms.  Parenting expert and Founder of Bump Club and Beyond, Lindsay Pinchuk shared some ideas for resources and help.

School Zone and Anywhere Teacher

School Zone is the creator of best-selling educational products for young learners.   What could be more fun and loaded with learning for preschoolers and kindergarteners than these colorful, character-themed learning packs? Each includes, workbooks, reading books, flash cards, game cards, fun writing supplies, and FIVE different games. And there’s even more. The choices are nearly unlimited!

Anywhere Teacher is School Zone’s online learning platform for children ages 2-8.  The award-winning online learning tool is the perfect addition to every child’s education! Designed to align with national education standards, Anywhere Teacher offers over 2,000 activities that make learning fun, safe, and ad-free, starting at just $6.99/month! (Free 30-day trial with code: SMARTKIDS)

You can find an online class on virtually ANY subject here.  Outschool is the largest marketplace of live online classes for kids. They connect learners, parents and teachers to create interest-based, small-group learning experiences that take place over video chat. Classes start at $10 each. With over 100,000 classes,l earners can take core subjects like math, reading, and science, as well as interest-based topics you won’t find anywhere else like Spanish with Taylor Swift, LEGO Engineering or Pet Reptile Social Hour.

This app allows you to borrow and read books for free from your library…you can even send them to your kindle.

Teachers Pay Teachers:

This is for parents who want more traditional resources like worksheets to keep kids off screens.  The go-to place to find the resources and inspiration you need to teach at your best. Standards-aligned material to address needs for every grade, subject, and specialty. 3 million resources. 5 million educators.

PLUS, A lot of teachers and mental health professionals that I spoke with suggested a lot of practical learning to keep kids off screens.  Anything from games like Uno and Mancala to baking so that you can talk about math.  There are some great companies like The Cookie Cups and Baketivity that have awesome baking kits with everything that you need already inside.

And then of course we want to get kids moving.  Websites like Go Noodle provide fun breaks to get kids up and moving. PLUS, you can play it right on your TV and get the whole family involved in a Go Noodle break!
