March is Women’s History Month. BCB salutes the MANY women throughout history who have gotten us to this point today. But, throughout March 2021 we are celebrating and sharing MOMS who are making history RIGHT NOW. As we know, moms are basically super human, super heroes. We tackle so much at once, are the queens of multitasking and at the end of the day—we are almost always putting others’ best interests ahead of our own. So as we look to the future, we want you to meet some incredible women, all of who are making sure brighter days lie ahead for all.

Where do you live? Houston, Texas
I am founding and general partner of Curate Capital, a venture capital fund committed to investing in female-founders. Through investing capital and providing advisory services, we accelerate the success of businesses by women for women.
This is notable and even history-making because (1) women get so little venture capital dollars overall, and (2) so few women venture capitalists exist. To be more specific, in 2020, women received only 2.3% of all venture capital dollars invested in the US. Furthermore, two-thirds of all VC firms have zero female partners.
Rather than single out one influential woman, I’d rather point to the groundswell of women making a difference day in and day out. Whether at home or at work or in their communities, women all over are both quietly and loudly making a difference. There is so much inspiration to be gained from one another!
“Refusing to be silent” means speaking and living my truth on a daily basis. It’s about unapologetically living my life in a way that aligns with my personal values, morals, ethics, principles, and priorities.
The pandemic has certainly brought to light the painful reality of how much weight women bear in so many ways — emotionally, familial, professionally, and more.
We really must dispel this myth of women being able to do it all – or even balance it all. Yes, I believe we can do many things. But we can only “do it all” so to speak with an underlying support system. Truly, it takes a village in many ways.

People might be surprised to learn that I had an almost 20-year career in the energy industry prior to pivoting to investing in the female-founder space. My undergraduate degree is in engineering, while I also have my MBA. While my background is in the corporate arena, I actually spent the majority of my career with a very entrepreneurial minded company. That’s what inspired me to venture out on my own about five years ago.
Well, I definitely have to credit my incredible support system. I am fortunate to have a loving, supportive, involved partner. My husband Mark parents and cares for our children just as much as I do. Besides him, we have other team members who help us fill in our holes both personally and professionally.
I’m not sure there is “balance” per se. But rather, I aim to direct my energy where I’m most effective. I’m a big believer in strengths-based leadership. Focus on what you do best, and don’t be afraid to ask for help with the rest.
And rather than chasing happiness, I believe more so in finding fulfillment. Pursuing a fulfilling life ultimately leads to happiness, but it also leads to a life with purpose embedded into it.
I think this past year has really stripped out a lot of the noise in our daily lives.
The pandemic has fundamentally changed how we define “being at work”. The traditional office environment may never come back as we knew it before. Ultimately, this will be a good thing for women, as we have yearned for more flexible work environments for years. Work from home and flexible schedules are very important to many of us.
There’s no “correct” or “best” way to mother. We are all just doing the best we can. Remember that you know your kids and their needs better than anyone else!
Last show you binged: Shark Tank all the time over and over!
Last book you read: Tim Ferriss’ Tribe of Mentors and John Maxwell’s Change Your World
Go-To Family Dinner: Sadly, we are eating takeout way too much these days!
Favorite Beverage: depends on the time of day – ha! It ranges from a vanilla latte to unsweet iced tea to a frozen margarita or a glass of wine
Favorite Take out: Escalante’s — our go-to neighborhood Mexican spot
Favorite Dessert: key lime pie or anything with strawberries
Summer or Winter? summer!
Dream Vacation: Maldives
#1 Beauty Product you can’t live without: In general, I am pretty minimalist and basic with my skincare regime. But one splurge that I enjoy is the La Prairie cellular 3-minute peel. Yes, it’s a splurge and indulgence, but it lasts forever! I’ve been using one jar weekly for almost a year.
