BCB Celebrates Mom: Julia Min

By lindsay

BCB celebrates mom EVERY DAY, but in May we BLOW OUT the celebration for Mother’s Day each and every year.  If you haven’t already, check out our Mother’s Day Gift Guide!  It’s filled with some of the best products from mom and women owned businesses.  We’ll be introducing you to the  amazing women behind these brands throughout the month of May.  If you have a mom founder we should meet, send us an email at info@bumpclubandbeyond.com.

NAME: Julia Min

COMPANY: TWELVElittle or on Instagram @twelvelittle

KIDS (names/ages): Noah 10, Noelle 8, Nolan 6

WHERE DO YOU LIVE: DFW, TX

How did you start your business?

Right when I was pregnant with my first child, Noah, I started to search for stylish and functional diaper bags and was disappointed by the lack of options available at the time.

Back then I was working in NYC designing fashion handbags and found myself randomly doodling diaper bags that I wanted to personally carry around. From then on, I decided to pursue making my own collection of diaper bags and went on to create TWELVElittle.

What advice would you give to other moms looking to start a business?

There is no single formula that works in starting a business. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences so try not to compare yourself to other mompreneurs who are already successfully running their businesses. You should definitely be inspired and learn from fellow moms in business, but find your own way that works for you.

Also, it is so important to find the right people to work with. Don’t try to do everything on your own. Acknowledge your areas of weakness and find people that share the same vision and passion and create your own “work family.”

How do you balance mom life and work-life?  Is there even such a thing?

It’s an ongoing struggle and something that I have yet to master. Honestly, I don’t think you can ever perfectly balance the two—either you work too much and lack time with family, or spend more time with family and find that you have too much work to catch up on. You need a village—don’t try to be a supermom and burn yourself out.

Favorite quote/motto to live by?

This one is really hard. If you know me, I LOVE quotes and memes!!

But there is one quote that we recently shared on our TWELVElittle Instagram page that still rings true in my heart:

“All your kids want is you. Not the fit mom, the IG mom, the organic mom not every other mom you think you should be. All they want is you, so be the happiest version of yourself, and you’ll be enough”.

What is your theme song or karaoke song?

I love singing to “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten.

What are you hoping to do to celebrate Mother’s Day this year?  Anything on your wish list?

Possibly a date night with my husband without kids or just a relaxed take-out dinner at home over a good family movie.

I may ask for something nice also… we all deserve something nice after this past year!

What are five things you cannot live without?

-My family

-Food—especially dessert

-My phone (so sad but true)

-Vacations

-Online shopping

How do you indulge for YOURSELF?

Alone time… I need a mom cave or mom fort— whatever you want to call it. I need to be alone, even if it’s for 30 minutes in the evening, with no one talking to me or needing me.

What is the best part about motherhood?

Watching my kids grow. I don’t believe in controlling my kid’s future so I love finding their hidden talents and developing personalities as they grow. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for them and it’s such a joy watching them become who they are meant to be.

Funniest thing your kid has ever said or done?

There are too many! But one thing my daughter Noelle constantly tells me is that she never wants to be married or have children because kids are a lot of work! 😆

First thing you will do when the pandemic is over?

Visit my mom in South Korea with my family, and travel to whichever country we are allowed to go to. This pandemic has taught me to appreciate traveling more than anything!

Is there anything else that you want the BCB Community to know about you?

I was never a kid person. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have had any kids. Maybe just get married or live with a partner and travel the world together.

But here I am with three beautiful, crazy kids, living in one of the largest suburbs in Texas, and running a diaper bag brand. You really never know!
