Tell us a little bit about yourself. Basically tell us what your mission is!

Hi! My name is GaBBY Goodwin, I’m 15 years old, and I’m the CEO of Confidence and the inventor of GaBBY Bows. With our patented barrettes, plant based girl’s natural hair products, and other solutions, we are able to help families bond over beauty.

How and why did you start your business?

My business started out of frustration. My mom was not only tired of spending 15 to 20 minutes doing my hair every morning and then my hair being a mess when she picked me up, but she was also tired of wasting money every two weeks buying the barrettes. She went on Twitter to rant about her predicament, and our pastor jumped into the conversation and said, “Sounds like a market you need to break into.” My mom told me about the exchange when I was about 5 years old. At that age, I didn’t know what entrepreneurship was, but I did know I wanted to inspire people. I saw a solution to this problem as a way to do that.

When did you start your business? How has the pandemic affected it?

We launched our business on February 9, 2014 when I was 7 years old. The pandemic cancelled or postponed many of the speaking engagements I was booked for, so it took away that portion of the revenue we had. But it allowed us to focus more on online sales and caring for our Confidence Family (customers). We have had some of the best revenue years recently in our past eight years of business.

How might your business change when the pandemic is over (if at all)?

We’ll continue to nurture and care for our Confidence Family. The pandemic taught us how to better cherish relationships.

What would someone be surprised to learn about your business?

Someone would be surprised that we ran the business from what was once our dining room, great room and hallways for seven years. We called our house a “warehome” because of all the inventory, boxes, supplies, printers, etc.

What is one piece of advice for new business owners that you wish someone told you beforehand?

I would share a quote I came up with: “NO is just an abbreviation for Next Opportunity.”

When you have time to yourself, what do you like to do that isn’t business related?

I love to dance, play online games and read.
