Sydney’s Top Five Favorite Spooky Movies

By Mandi Kreisher

I will be the first to admit that I am a basic millennial, fall absolutely is my favorite season. Pumpkin flavored everything, cozy sweaters, spooky movie nights?! You can’t beat it. You can catch me curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn, and my favorite Halloween candy (yep, I’m the one who likes candy corn) watching one of my top 5 spooky movies:

For you and your older kiddos:

  1. Hocus Pocus (and Hocus Pocus 2!!)

Since I gave away my age range above, I’m sure you have already guessed what would be number one. The tried, the true Hocus Pocus! And now, Hocus Pocus 2! The trio of witches from salem may send some chills up the spines of your older kiddos, but, the goofiness is sure to offset the scares. These not-too-spooky movies are perfect for getting into the spooky season!

  1. Halloweentown

Or Halloweentown 2, Halloweentown High, ANY from this series is a must watch..honestly, make it a Halloweentown marathon! Snuggle up and join Marnie who on her 13th birthday discovers she is a witch (still waiting for this to happen to me). With the help of her grandmother, Marnie and her siblings discover Halloweentown, a mythical destination with ghouls, witches, werewolves and all of the Halloween figures! Halloweentown and its sequels do have mildly scary scenes, but, overall is a feel good family movie.

  1. The Haunted Mansion

Anything staring Eddie Murphy, you know you’re in for a laugh. The Haunted Mansion is a classic spooky movie that is perfect for you and your older kiddos to enjoy, and is more funny than scary. Grab your popcorn, snuggle up and enjoy!

For you and your little ones:

  1. Hotel Transylvania

Welcome to Hotel Transylvania, no humans allowed! This adorable, animated movie follows Dracula who operates a high-end resort for monsters and is throwing a birthday party for his daughter when, a human shows up… Hotel Transylvania is not too spooky for your little ones and trust me, you’ll get some laughs out of it too. If you like it,  they have since come out with 3 additional movies!

  1. Addams family (not the one from the 60s)

We all know and love the Addams family, but you haven’t seen them like this before. In this animated, modern take on the Addams family, the eccentric family moves to a bland suburb. This movie is more funny than spooky, but definitely leans into the spooky and Halloween-esque vibe without being too scary for little ones!
